Infertility & Finding a Fertility Doctor

I have Cystic Fibrosis. Having children will be challenging for me. I am looking for fertility help. I'd like to get on a pill formed medication and medicine in the form of injections. I hear they both work well for conceiving. What kind of doctor should I look for to prescribe me these types of medications? Where do I start? I am so lost. Help! Thanks so much!

Where are you located?

The first thing I would do is talk to your CF doctor about it, they can give you a referral to the reproductive endocrinology department.

If the doctor you end up seeing is not familiar with CF, be aware that some of the injectable medications cause constipation.

Let me know if you have any other questions.

I also had trouble conceiving and went through an egg retrieval.

Hi Katie! Thanks so much for your comment :) I am hoping to do the conceiving process naturally. I have heard that Clomid can "burn" the ovaries. Have you heard anything about Clomid? I was thinking about it but ever since I read that I got scared. I will bring this up with my doctor for sure. As far as the injectables causing constipation, I will stay on the Miralax daily as directed by my doctor. And anything else I can do to avoid the constipation. Thanks again! :)

I have not used clomid. When I went for my consultation they found out immediately that I would not be able to conceive naturally so I went right to injectables for an egg retrieval. Instead of clomid, they do have trigger shots you can do, but usually that is when they will also do an IUI. I went to UCSF in California for all of my fertility needs. They reproductive endocrinology department was not familiar with working with CF so after my egg retrieval I was hospitalized for about a week with some complications (more so related to previous medical issues they didn't take into consideration, or didn't think would be an issue). If you do end up on injectables I would bump your mirlax to 1.5-2 doses/day.

Are there injectables to help with doing this naturally? Yes I definitely want to go with a clinic that works with CF patients. What's it like cost wise? Not to pry, I'd just like to know what I'm looking at. Thanks again! :) Look forward to speaking with you more!

Hi, I wa shattered wondering if you could tell me what all you might of done naturally ?

My obgyn told me berthing in my end is good, my tubes are clear I had an “ hysterosalpingogram “ my right was a tiny plugged but the dye pushed through it after a second. Everything flowed right out. So really I guess what their trying to say is my mucus plug is just plugged like my CF doctor says most of have to deal with. Just that it’s the problem it’s super thick mucus. So hard for the sperm to travel on through! So do you know if anything I could do to un-thick it Basicly. Lol CF problems!!!!
Sorry I don’t have social media so when you have some time if you could respond back. I would appreciate it. Thank you amber!

I'm not sure what the cost would be for you because what I did was so different. I know an IUI is a couple hundred dollars bc my sister did one. But I'm only familiar with IVF.
I also don't really know any specifics on doing it "naturally" as that wasn't an option for me.

I'm scared of the things I have heard about Clomid. However, every medication has it's up and it's downs right? Hopefully my CF doctor can point me into the right direction of a good specialist who can help me out. I have heard that OBGYN's can prescribe medications too. But seeing as I'm also looking for injectables, they may not be the person to go to. But I don't know. We'll see. Thanks again! :)
