    Results of OGTT...

Havoc - it seems that there are clear studies that show CFRD and lower lung function are often found together: "Decreased Lung Function in Female but not Male Subjects With Established Cystic Fibrosis - Related Diabetes" http://care.diabetesjournals.org/content/28/7/1581.short (who wants to...

<div class="FTQUOTE"><begin quote><i>Originally posted by: <b>Havoc</b></i> I can't find any concrete information that says that increased blood serum translates to increased airway surface liquid glucose. In fact, just the opposite. There is a facilitated diffusion mechanism that clears glucose...

    Results of OGTT...

If your diary shows highs, then there are issues. As I recall, you have been keeping a diary the past week or so. There is nothing magical about the OGTT - in fact, it's less accurate than keeping a 2 week diary. Highs are highs. I passed my OGTT with flying colors 3 months in a row - yet I...

    Two Carrier Parents

i don't care if someone has been working with CF patients for 500 years, you don't have a 50% chance of having a kid with CF unless one parent has CF and the other is a CF gene carrier. facts are facts. maybe you heard the counselor wrong

any parents out there dealing with CF adult children that have given up

So sorry to hear this. Do you support him with money/food/shelter? As a parent with an adult child, you are not obligated to provide these things for him - and if he chooses to not live by your rules (aka not drinking alcohol, or maybe not going to doc appts, etc), you shouldn't be providing...

    first symptoms of CFRD?

I am a strong believer that the ONLY accurate way to diagnose CFRD is doing a blood sugar diary, testing 4-5x/day, 2 hours after your 1st bite of a meal. A1C's can be artificially low if you are having low's as well as your high's (A1C's are an average of your blood sugars). Ask your doc to...

Sould we be doing breathing treatments

there can be lung damage even if your FEV1 is 100+%. prevention is always better than treating something after it's occurred. My FEV1 was over 90% until just a year ago (I'm 30) and i KNOW that all the preventative treatment I did as achild and young adult has given me many more years of life.

CFRD. Just checked two hrs after lunch is 164

Sorry to be OT, but Misty I just read on another thread your kid is 6 and not doing any breathing treatments? CF is all about prevention, and I'm shocked your kid isn't on any type of preventative treatments. Lungs can be damaged prior to FEV1 (lung function) going down, so doing treamtents...
