Hypertonic Saline

I'm pretty sure everyone here has been on hypersal at some point. Word to the wise: if you're just starting it it's going to burn and sting and make you cough so hard you'll pee your pants (ok, maybe not). Buuuuut that stuff is the shiz for loosening you up. Personally I'm very used to it now...

What does it feel like to go a day or two without albuterol?

Over the past 2 years I've noticed a dramatic decline in function, so nowadays if I miss too many days (like 3) then I feel clogged, like I can't quite catch my breath, and laying down isn't too fun. I feel like my lungs are filling up. Whereas years ago I wouldn't do a treatment for weeks...

    Oldest Person With CF

<begin quote>Originally posted by: welshwitch I'd like the ask the "old people" a question. How did you think about the median age of survival when you were growing up? (Assuming you were diagnosed early). It's a psychological monkey on my back and sometimes...

    Hypertonic saline burning your throat?

This is why I HATE having to do hypertonic in the hospital because they make you do it like 3-4x a day! I even lost my voice once because it was so harsh on my throat but nooooooooooo....... had to keep doing it. Sometimes I dilute it down just a tad with albuterol or these little vials of...

Have you ever received PT in a hospital?

<begin quote>Originally posted by: TonyaH I believe clinicians with AIDS are at greater riskFROM their patients than they are TO their patients. Universal precautions protect people from bloodborne pathogens much more effectively than airborne. </end quote> Oh...

Have you ever received PT in a hospital?

<begin quote>Originally posted by: Aboveallislove I do hope both for your sake and the sake of other patients that you won't be doing PT on anyone with lung disease, whether CF or otherwise. Have you discussed with them?</end quote> I'm not sure yet. But it's...

Have you ever received PT in a hospital?

So I'm a student PTA and we've briefly touched on the subject of possibly giving PT (exercise, chest percussion etc) to pulmonary patients. I think it's cool that I may be able to work with these types of patients because like most CFers I have an interest in it. However, in my mind it seems...

    Daily painful abdomen

So for the past few years or so I've been having this issue. It's not "I forgot my enzymes" pain, but like a deep, deep aching/bloating pain, mostly in my left side. It used to only happen if I'd be sitting poorly for long periods of time, but over the past year since starting...

    CF and living location

In my mind the ocean is the absolute best place to live for CF. I always, always do better when we take a trip to the beach (it's like a constant neb!). I live in Arizona, have never known anything else, but the dry air can be a pain sometimes. It just... dries you out, and not in a good way...

Too risky or worth the risk?

What have your O2 stats been like? I'd ask your doctor/rehab therapist what they think, because if your stats are low and you exercise too much it can go downhill very quickly. From what I've learned from a clinician standpoint if a patients O2 gets below 90 you should stop.

    Who doesn't eat extra salt?

Granted, when I was a kid I'd poursalt on everything because 1. I played soccer in the desert year round and 2. everyone told me to eat lots of it. I looooooved salt. But now I hardly eat salt at all. I kept forgetting to add it to food and my tastebuds adjusted. Now if I eat anything...

    Doctor with CF

you also have to consider the exposure you'd get to all sorts of bugs, what with working in a hospital and generally spending a lot of time there. Nearly all healthcare workers test positive for MRSA, so that's something to think about. Have you thought about medical vocational school? There's...

    Arizona--moving

Hey there, I've been in Tucson for 19 years As far as allergies, being a native Tucsonan I have little to no problems with them. Only when the palo verde bloom do most people have issues, but I rarely do. One issue for people moving...

    Moving to a new climate...?

I'm in Arizona so I can kind of relate. The only issues are the dust storms, in which case I don't go outside much, and I live out of town to we're away from the massive amounts of pollen from those freaking palo verde trees. I'm used to the dry so a change to humidity is kind of nice...
