Yes, do whatever you can to get the vest. Emily is almost 2, and it has been great. She can be very active while wearing it, which is a must for her. She jumps, throes a ball, wiggles with the Wiggles, does the Hokey Pokey with Elmo, you name it, if there's a dance to go with it, it has been done in our house during a vest session.

It's still a bit of a struggle to get her to sit for nebs which we do before and during part of her vest session, but it is improving, and we we lots of "hand dances" during those times. (Itsy bitsy spider, etc...)

I have found the opposite of Liza Halleujia chours suggestion to workd with Emily...sometimes (since nothing works everytime with a toddler). I get as quiet as I can and sing or whisper a nursery rhyme in her ear. She goes still as stone as long as I keep it up. It takes approximately 13 times through of "Hey Diddle Diddle...all the verses...to get through a vial of Pulmozyme. LOL!

This is a trying age. Keep a good sense of humour about you, avoid making it a power struggle, find as many ways as y ou can to keep his m ind engaged and remember that he'll be 3 soon enough. ANd then 4, and then 5... It will all get easier with time.

Hang in there!

Tami you just reminded me of something.

To this day, when someone pounds on my back I get sleepy.

Guess that's what you get when mom does CPT on you for 13 years, every day of your life. zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

(i didn't get the Vest until I was 15)

I have no advice either......I have the same problem with my 2 yr old. We have tried EVERYTHING..... including his 3 big brothers to entertain......nothing works. We barely get a whole 5 minutes....so we just keep trying. We go to pulmonologist on Monday so i plan on discussing the vest with her....but I am not sure if his insurance will cover....(state CHIP card) but good luck. carrie

Our dd is 3.5, she was dx a yr ago and we still have some resistance occasionally. You really need to make sure your technique is good. I have been a massage therapist for 10 years, so doing cpt is quite easy for me. Practice on each other to make sure it feels good. Keep your hands cupped tight and your wrists loose. I do clapping rhythmically with both hands. Tonight we were being goofy and I clapped with one hand on her chest and one over her mouth . She made up a crazy song and we were both laughing. Make it fun!!!!

When we started a year ago, I would clap her and then we would each get a dolly and she clapped her doll and I did another! Little girls love to incl. their dolls in stuff!!

Be firm and let her know she has no choice. She either lets you do her cpt or you take away her fave doll?? something to let her know you mean business.

She also likes getting her legs and butt clapped sometimes feet hands nose ... I clap what ever she throws at me, It keeps it fun! BE GOOFY!
