I regularly use the Acapella as either my primary or secondary method of airway clearance -- anything I can do in the car gets a vote in my book. My clinic prefers us to use the older style Acapella (it comes in green or blue and you can stand it on its end), but we do NOT use it with a nebulizer (in fact, I'm not supposed to ever inhale through it).
Here's my question: I've seen several posts and blogs that mention the expense of the Acapella. Huh? The thing I use (I use the green one) can't be very expensive. They give me two at clinic every three months and I'm sure if there was a significant expense, I'd be hearing about it from insurance or something. I've even had RTs use them as essentially disposal in the hospital. They'll set one up to use with my nebulizers, but they use a new one each time since in that case I'm inhaling through the Acapella.
1. So, is there a more advanced product or something that I'm missing?
2. How often do you change your Acapella?
3. Do you ever use your Acapella with any of your nebs? If so, which meds? (I've done it with albuterol and hypertonic saline)
4. If you use the old style green/blue Acapella, do you ever adjust the dial? If so, what setting?
5. If you know and feel like sharing, what is your out-of-pocket cost on an Acapella?
Thanks!
