ADEKS and breastfeeding?

I have a clinic apt on Friday and I had my labs done earlier in the week - I had the report sent to myself as well and I see that my vitamin levesl are super duper low. My vitamin D is at 21 - normal being 30-52, my retinol vitamin A is at 0.28 (normal is 0.30-1.20)

So.....I have been taking prenatals and an additional vitamin D/calcium supplement, but apparently, I might need to do more. I have a bottle of ADEKS that I havenm't taken because the vitamin A was so high and too much vitamin A can be bad for kids - but it seems if I am showing a deficinecy that I might be fine to take the ADESk as I might not absorb it all anyway, right?

So do you think I should take them? Have any other breastfeeders talked with their docs about this?

also, I noticed I get dizzy a lot these days - do you think that is related to this??

I have had my vitamin levels checekd while jsut on prenatals and they were fine so I did not take the adeks but my doctor recommended them (so assumign they are fine?) since most cf'ers dont absorb ebough adek that is why dosage is so high and amount you end up getting shoudl be fine. Not to mention your body has some stores to replenish so I doubt the extra would be too bad for a long time. This is all off cuff here by no means do I know what I am talking about 'officially' <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-wink.gif" border="0">

I go to clinic week after next, thanks for reminder, I will have them check mine agian just ot make sure.

I resumed ADEKs after delivery. My doctor had suggested I stay on ADEK along with prenatal while pregnant but I did not want the increased A exposure for Isaac. My vit levels are fine but after a year off of ADEKs they were on the lower side of normal.

You all might find it interesting to learn that Isaac's vit levels - ADE & K - were all great. He had them tested due to his 2 cf muts. Further proof that cfers can breastfeed :) I thought it was really interesting that his Vit. D level was higher than what is considered normal. I'm glad I didn't follow the peds advice to give Trivisol to him. They tell all their bf'ing mommies to give this vit supplement from 8 wks on. I chose not to give it to him when I learned that Vit A & C had never been fully tested in infants and they are in Trivisol.

Lauren-very interesting info on the trivisol, I always feel bad that I dont give her vtimans regularly, she has had maybe a bottle since 6 months. I didnt give any before 6 months becaue only things I am concerned about are vitamin D and iron and generally if they are not getting enough through BF then they will have enough 'stores' from mom to keep them good for 6 months, it is only then sometiems they get anemic. I dont really want her to get stuck but I owuldnt mind seeing what her vitmain levels are, of course now she is on food too so that woudlnt prove much I guess. I try to feed her spinach at least 2-3x a week to keep her good on iron and maybe 1-2x week I give her vitamins.
