hi all, i developed a skeletal muscle tremor from the long use of albuterol. Its becoming totally embarassing and just cant explain it to everyone. My hand fingers shake often and I'm totally pissed bec my doc said i should go on using it. Any ppl with this problem, and how to treat it.

I didnt know albuterol did that. I know it can make your heart rate faster. Hmmm this is making me think. I have noticed that my hands shake more than they used to....it has made me stop painting as much as i used to because the shaky hands make me mess up and its annoying. Sorry i cant help you.

I get shaky too after my treatments (I use .5 albut in my neb). I only notice it when I'm writing and I can't keep my hand steady, but it seems to go away within a half hour.

I have the same problem, but it doesn't really bother me anymore. It is kind of annoying when people who don't know about it keep asking why I'm nervous or scared, though. I tell them that's just normal for me to shake like that, although they almost never believe me.

But what the hell, if they're going to be around me a lot, they'll see for themselves I'm telling the truth, and if they aren't, then it doesn't really matter, because I won't be seeing them again, anyway. =-)

you'll probably get pissed at me, too, but I agree with your doctor. To hell with people and what they think of me. If they can't get over my shakes, then I'll just let one of my farts and really give them something to talk about. =-)

Tremor is just a side effect of the albuterol, happens a lot Normally though it does go away a little while after the treatment... it's definitely annoying, but i'm not sure if there are any drugs out there to treat it. Many drugs are available for a condition called essential tremor (propranolol & other beta blocker agents), however the general rule of thumb is not to treat a side effect of a drug with another drug.

Plus it is possible that using a drug to block tremor might block the effect of the albuterol... kinda of in a sticky situation... good luck

My daughter was switched to Xopenex due to tremors she was getting with Albuterol. Insurance companies don't like it because it is alot more expensive - but, if your doctor documents the reason for needing the Xopenex they will pay for it.

ooohhh.. good idea

Xopenex might be worth a shot (levalbuterol)... the advertising ploy is that it helps control the fast heartbeat that some people get on albuterol, but maybe it helps with tremors too! I really don't know, but it is MUCH more expensive your doctor might have to discuss it with the insurance company to see if they'll pay. I read that Xopenex can still cause tremors in some people, but maybe it's not as bad as albuterol.

I have tried Zopenex, my doctor wanted me to go on it becasue I have high blood pressure and a rapid heart rate. I didn't find it to work for me the way that albuteral does. Just doens't open me up as much.

I also get the shakey hands that never go away. I never really notice it unless I am playing cards and my hands tremble. I never really attributed it to the albuteral but I bet it is...

I've used xopenex for a few months (1.25mL) and although I've heard that it will not make your heart race/produce tremors like albuterol, it does do that to me...perhaps because I'm on a higher dose (previously I was on .63mL)...it doesn't really bother me too much, just somewhat annoying.

I can only use xopenex. The albuterol does a number on my heart and I shake so badly. And sometimes it will induce a panic attack because I feel so strange.

I have the tremors from albuterol, but not all the time. Its quite odd actually. There doesnt seem to be any rhyme or reason to it. I tried other meds because of the tremors, but didnt feel as much of an airway difference so I stuck it out with the albuterol.

i think that you need to weigh out the advantages of using albuterol w/ the side effects. Only you can tell by trial and error if it may be the right drug for you. I read in a book (i can giv you title) they said that it was on the fda watchlistr of dangerous things for a long time. Or it might still be. they had me on the stuff for like 8 years and i just cut clean off it and the side effects were just not worth it. good luck
