So I have been feeling not myself for a few months now... turns out I am depressed.
It took so long to figure it out because I always pictured someone depressed as crying all the time and what not. Mine is the opposite--I'm numb, my mind is constantly cloudy and I can't concentrate on anything. I have no energy and desire to do anything.
I am in therapy and try to do yoga and exercise every week. It hasn't seemed to kick me into gear yet. I have tried Lexapro and Prozac and know that medications are definitely not for me because I have had bad reactions to both of them.
I'm feeling a little helpless like I will never get better.
I was wondering what worked for anyone else that has experienced this?
Any other remedies besides resorting to medication?

You could try a diet change unless you already eat really healthy and cut out the sugars...

Maybe you can also try writing in a journal, whenever you spring a thought into your mind write it down, analyze it, and writing your feelings about it.

I wish I had something else to tell ya but I dont...usually the way I get out of depression is just to let it ride its course...unless I go shopping and buy something really pretty <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-happy.gif" border="0">

I hope you feel better soon

i felt exactly the same way you do now about 2 years ago. it had been going on for months and i just kept getting so frustrated at myself b/c i couldn't seem to get myself to snap out of it--turns out its not just a matter of "snapping out of it." i started zoloft and have been on it for 2 years now. i know you said medicine hasn't/doesn't work for you but thats what i did. since you're already seeing a counselor and doing regular exercise maybe talking to someone like MichelleGazelle on here would be helpful--i know she has tons of info on alternative and natural supplements and might be able to suggest something. also LightNLife (lauren) has an awesome blog with tons of articles she's written about cf in conjunction with other topics. here is the link to her section on cf and mental health....

Generally speaking, if I am depressed, it is due to anemia and the lack of energy that goes with it. In that case, treating the anemia with iron and b vitamins is the best thing for me to do. I also tripped across an article last summer that indicates too much arachidonic acid (AA) is associated with depression. I asked around on a CF list and was told that people with CF do tend to be too high in AA. For me, getting healthier has been the best way to resolve issues with depression.

Good luck with this.
