Hey I was just wondering if any of you all have a awesome pet? A pet that has maybe helped you get through some nasty sick times or just been there to lay beside you? I have two awesome Golden Retrievers they have been my best friends, they are always waiting for me at the door & love to just sit & "be there for me". So do any of you have a awesome pet like that?

One of the reasons I have always had pets of some type was because of their instinct. In addition to CF, I also have epilepsy & our family dog we had when I was growing up went & got my Mom during my first seizure. The few I had after that I think she knew were coming because there were times when she wouldnt leave my side. I also currently have a cat (I also have a dog) that knows when I am really having problems with my CF. He seems to know when I need the comfort. I love animals & have been told by my doctor that I might eventually have to get rid of them because of my airway problems. I told her that would NEVER happen. I will do whatever has to be done to avoid that because my daughter & I need them in our lives. My husband doesnt go ga ga over them like the two of us do, but he would miss them.

My kitty is awesome! He's orange and white and I love him! He knows when I'm not feeling well. A few weeks ago I had a migrane and he stayed in bed with me all day. When I had the flu almost 2 years ago he kept trying to sleep on my chest, not very helpful for breathing. Also when my bf broke his toe about a month ago the cat hung out with him all day.

We also have 2 snakes, a ball python and an Argentine boa. For the poster who said they want a snake just do your research into how big it will get. The bigger they get the harder it is to find food for them. We're already having trouble with the boa and she's only about half grown (she will get up to 14 feet and will eventually want to eat full grown rabbits). The python will only be about 6 to 8 feet and will be happy with large rats, but even those can be hard to find.

I will put my baby bull out there on this one. He is 3 year old American Bulldog that is 25 inches tall and weighs in at 110lbs. His grandfather was Chance from the movie homeward bound(aka Rattler). He is a big dumby that drools way to much but he is my baby.

To Luke---I love bulldogs (except the drool). Your dog ways my normal weight & right now is actually heavier then I am. That just hit me as really funny for some reason. Give him a big old hug from an avid dog lover, please!

I have a totally awesome dog, a Chesapeake Bay Retriever named Mickey. He understands French! When I say, "Assey-vous" (sit down, I may have spelled it wrong), he sits. When I say "Levez-vous" (stand up) he jumps up, "levez la main" (raise your hand) he lifts his paw. He also knows his right paw and left paw. Of course, Mickey only does these tricks when I have a cookie or treat in my hand!

His full name is Michalob Amber Bach....the breeder we got him from names all of her dogs after alcohol, so we followed suit...when we are feeling silly we call him "Mr. Mick Feeley". (Mr. McFeeley was the name for the mailman on Mr. Roger's Neighborhood. I know, old show for little kids, but hey, we loved it when we were smaller).

Mickey rocks!

yeah along with my dogs, I have the cutest miniature horse. ( not a pony ) He is so cute & Loveable. He is a palomino paint, & I have a small cart that he pulls! So, when the CF walk comes I get him all fancy & hitch him up to his cart & off we go! Everyone loves him & I give the little kids rides with his cart.

Anyway he is allot of fun & I love him dearly!<img src="i/expressions/heart.gif" border="0">

Sorry about the buzz kill on this one. We recenty had to put our cat to sleep, she had lymphoma and leukemia and there was nothing we could do. She really only lasted a month after she was diagnosed. I loved that crazy cat, she was a better dog than my dogs. She always laid right beside you, followed you around the house, and always begged for food. She has been gone for a month and I miss her more than any person I have ever known to die. That might not be right...but it is true!

I have two cats. The older one will jump on my chest and purr loudly when I am conjested. She also bites me when I'm not breathing properly in my sleep. Both cats stay by my side when I am sick. That is the only way someone knows I need to see a doctor, because I'm good at hiding how sick I am.

Sunnie, I read an article about six months ago about how cats can tell their owners are sick. The one example I remember from the article: they told a story about how the husband of a woman who died suddenly of kidney or liver cancer realized after she died that their cat had been suddenly gotten fixated about snuggling next to her kidney or liver (sorry cannot remember which) about six months earlier. There were other examples but at the moment I cannot remember them. Interesting though, that you have had the same experience with your cats!
