Sooo.. I just got back from the hospital..... I've now been bleeding for almost 2 days and in severe pain, cramps like I have my period and blood clots coming out when I pee. So, I went to my obgyn yesterday and she said my cervix looked like it was shortening (that is what happens when you go into labor but for some women it happens early - can cause miscarriage) so today I would need to go up to the hospital & have a detailed vaginal ultrasound of my cervix. She also found a good sized blood clot in my uterus yesterday, which the cause is unknown.. could be from the placenta growing or the baby growing, things stretching.. nothing I did though.. but that is whats causing the bleeding.. so I have 2 seperate issues going on. She said I would most likely need to get my cervix stitched closed (called a cervical cerclage). The cervix is a tiny muscle that holds the pregnancy, so when it is stitched it cant shorten anymore, therefore fixes the problem and no miscarriage hopefully.

So, today I went to the hospital with my parents and my fiance, prepared for the worst. I had the ultrasound done and they saw the blood clot... The baby looked perfect, great heartbeat and the placenta is getting lots of blood and is strong.. and, my cervix measured PERFECT today.......... so, I don't need that stitching!!!! Thank goodness - I was so scared. So, I have to let this blood clot pass on its own, and I am sentenced to bed rest for a week or more, depending on when the bleeding stops and my pains go away. (The pains I am having are from the blood clot in my uterus.)

We were also told that it is indeed looking like a girl. So, the past 2 days have been quite scary. I am going to take it easy - but it stinks cause I won't be able to do ANY Christmas shopping. I know everyone will understand, but I still feel really bad. I just want everything to be okay with my little girl.

Just wondering if this has happened to anyone else.... I am still quite scared!!!! I am almost 16 weeks pregnant..

Sorry to hear of your ordeal! I have heard of blood clots like yours - you just have to let it pass. But good news about baby and she'll be just fine. My friend had to have a cerclage after she lost her first baby. It was no big deal and she had it removed at 37 weeks and had a homebirth a few weeks later. Keep us updated!

I haven't had a clot but I have been through threatened miscarriages, pelvic rest and complete bed rest at the end for preterm labor. I know how scary it is. Just take it easy and enjoy the relaxation. Might be the last you get for a long time. Hee hee.

Yeah, it is sooooo scary... I'm starting to feel a LITTLE bit better with the bedrest .. I do get up to get a drink once in a while, to go to the bathroom, shower, etc. But the cramping is getting better and the bleeding is already less.. my doctor said I can do little things, like run to the store if needed but no heavy lifting - I am not even going to do that. I just want to get totally better and have my baby girl!

Thanks for the replies <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif" border="0">
