Augnentin and birth control pill

Hi all , I was just wondering if anybody is on Augmentin and The pill at the same time and how do they find it? i heard that Augmentin makes the pill less effective, any replies appreciated! thanks

Any Antibiotic will make the pill less effective. You should use alternative contraception while on antibiotics.Hope this helpsRose MariePWCF aged 37

Hello,I've heard that theoretically the pill and antibiotics don't work well together, but they have done studies which show that antibiotics don't actually have any effect on the pill and how well it works. My OBGYN is the one who told me this, I'm not just making it up. And I also have experience with taking augmentin and the pill, and I haven't gotten pregnant. I've taken antibiotics for six months straight, and I have never had a problem. I hope this helps and eases your worries a bit. Have a great day!

I was told by my doctor that oral antibiotics cause the pill to be less effective because they kill the bacteria which helps with absorbtion in the gut, so there is a high chance that the pill wont be absorbed properly so you wont be protected. thats all i know im afraid!
