My boss went to a conference and one of the topics was about B. Cepecia and cystic fibrosis. Knowing that my husband has CF, she listened.
She said that onion rot, like the nasty stuff you peel off the outer layer of an onion before using it for cooking is the same B. Cepecia that causes harm in CFer's lungs.
They used to think it was a different strain, but ends up it is the same. This kinda freaks me out that I would be bringing B. Cepecia into my home in the form of onions.
Onion rot is quite common, even if I only keep a couple onions in the house at once, sometimes they come from the store with a little rot.
What are your thoughts on this? I'm surprised the clinic didn't say anything. I will probably still buy onions but like 1 or 2 a week and cut and use them right away and keep them in the fridge in plastic bags.
