Birth control

I want to start taking birth control. Just in case.... But I was always told not to take the pill because I am constantly on 2-3 abx. Supposedly they offset each other and neither works (or I am completely remembering wrong).

So I wanted to see what all of you who are on BC take. I was thinking of starting that new one Mirena.

Thanks!

I have never used birth control pills, but the word I get is that it can be less effective with the antibiotics we use.

I have an IUD. I have had it for almost 10 years with NO problems. LOVE IT....

I do need to have it replaced this year as I was told its only good for 10 years. Not sure what happens if I dont replace it

That is also what I was told. In addition to that, the pill is fat soluble and goes through our "non-working" digestive system. IF you are taking it for bc purely and not just "regulation" then I would go with another method.

I first tried the patch and it worked well. It was pretty easy to remember, just once a week, you put a new one on. Then you have a week off. The only thing that sucked about that was the swimming issue in the summer. Sometimes (even with the shower) mine would come loose...good thing I had hosp. tape lying around . Then I switched because of cost issues, I use the Nuvaring. It works really well, is $20 cheaper for me and I use it for three weeks, a week off, and then a new one. I sometimes get confused as to when I need to change it, but I can usually remember.

I take Microgestin Fe 1/20. None of my doctors have ever had problems w. me on it. It's great!
