Just found out two out of three of my kids have this (# 3 hasen't had a CT yet). Very upsetting considering we are "Atypical CF".. My 7 year old(daughter) has it worse than my 11 yr old. I am concerned her nutrition is playing a roll. Does anyone have experience??

That's the permanent lung damage CF causes and everyone gets it eventually, even atypical cases. Mucus getting trapped in the lungs is the issue to address- exercise and compliance with treatments. Of course nutrition matters too for overall health. <img src="i/expressions/heart.gif" border="0">

Not sure that having bronchiectasis that young constitutes 'atypical' CF.... sounds very typical of CF to me!

Nutrition can play a role in the ability to fight off colds (colds can cause a PA flare up which can lead to lung damage).

Broccoli can increase glutatione levels (but it's debatable as to whether CFer's can get enough glutatione from food which is why the CFF is studying NAC)... proper glutatione levels can reduce inflammation particularly from neutrophils which are key culprits in CF lung damange.

Yes, my daughter has bronchiectasis as well. We found out after her first cat scan last summer. I was very upset to see all of the damage in her lungs. We really had thought her lungs were in great shape. Thankfully, my son did not show the damage. The drs theory is that aspiration before her nissan fundoplication might have caused the damage.
Sharon, mom of Sophia, 7 and Jack, 5 both with cf, Grant, one month, carrier
