The past couple of days I've been even more short of breath but I don't feel sick. I'm feeling pressure at the buttom center of my rib cage. Feels very tight. Its kinda werid because it will be there for couple days then next day won't be there. Then it always comes back. When its there just walking around is hard an short of breath. When I get bad its hard for me to catch my breath back. Has anyone gone through this?? If so what was it? My doc says that he don't know what it is! Its really effecting my life an realationship too!! ! Please help!!!

Are you coughing more then usual? Maybe try more CPT, vest, airway clearance,?? Being short of breath can be indication of something going on, even before mucus is being produced!

I haven't been coughing more than normal. I'd say, just can't breath

I find it odd that your doctor said that he doesn't know what is causing your shortness of breath and didn't seem to try to get to the root of the problem.

What did your doctor do when you saw him? Are your PFTs down? Are you producing more or a change in type of mucus? Are your blood oxygen levels okay? Have they done a chest x-ray? Are you having asthma or reactive airway episodes? Do you have an active infection? Do you have allergies?

There is really no way that anyone here can tell you what is causing you to have shortness of breath. We can guess, but it's your doctor's job to figure it out.

Matt, I had the same symptoms the other month and had a chest CT, and it was pneumonia. Then I did IV therapy for 3 weeks. I'm thinking if you have no improvement, call your doctor again, and have an X-ray (mine does CT's because they show more detail). Good luck to you.

Well I went to the er again lastnight. My chest was tight, also still short of breath. They did a xray, blood cultures, then another chest xray. They told me they didn't see anything different and sent me home. Still can't breath well an still tight.

I don't have an answer, but have been feeling the same way. For me my lungs are tight when I first wake up in the morning until I vest with a hypersal neb. Steps and fast walking are making me short of breath. My doctor suggested I try using a mask with my hypertonic saline neb. He thinks I may be starting with a sinus drip causing more mucus. So far it works to clear my nose for a couple hours. He also added Singulair to open my airways. I just started that so I don't yet know if it will work. Best wishes and please post if something works. You are not alone.

I was wondering if maybe you could be having some anxiety that is increasing your symptoms. It is just a suggestion that I am making because I can tell you are having such s rough time. I know no two people are the same but my 16 yr old son was having the same symptoms and he was getting anxious on top of it (which is completely understandable). I was not aware that it was anxiety. His cf doc, Is pretty smart and suggested that he felt some of it was anxiety. we started some anti anxiety medicine and he is doing a lot better. I mean no disrespect and am only sharing our experience. I hope you feel better soon. Janelle

I have had the same thing going on for the last week and a half. My doctor seems to think it is a reaction to the high pollen count we have in Ga. I went to the er last night and had xrays, blood work, and they couldn't find anything either. This is the worst I have ever felt. Feels like someone standing on chest. Waiting for culture test to rule out any kinds of molds, etc. Hope you get yours resolved soon.

Cosmicmystic that's exactly me. It really sucks bc I'm normally not like this. Hope we can find what is the cause of this.

I second the allergy doctor, though our local guy's scratch test was useless and I had to see a specialist. In my case it turned out I developed asthma with my CF, felt like an elephant sitting on my chest, spring and fall allergies for me....Sounds silly but try taking reactine for a week and see if it helps. I had to bump up to reactine + advair through the season, and use ventolin nebulized if I forget my meds and the elephant comes to visit. Should also mention I already was taking Singulair for the CF (if you're not, it was a godsend for me, might want to talk to your CF docs)
