OK so i have read about the dangers of this and wonder if this actually means that those with CF should stay away from organic food products. Do any of you know about CF and organic foods

I WOULLD LOVE HEAR THAT ANSWER ... MY BEST FRIEND SWEARS BY ORGANIC BUT DOESNT HAVE CF...SHE ALWAYS TRY TO TELL ME I SHOULD BE THE ONE USING ORGANIC STUFF... IS IT TRUE OR NOT?????

I have been on organic foods for a few years. I can tell you that I can only have organic cheeses which taste even better. Ordinary cheese congests me. I think everything in moderation is key. Organic is expensive but so are all instant foods process foods etc... it all adds up

I did read somewhere that Cepacia is used as a pesticide sometimes on organic farms so that could well be the reason you are being warned to stay away from organic.

I was considering 'going' organic myself until i read this, then changed my mind rather quickly!!

Hi!

I was diagnosed with Cepacea when I was 14, so that would have been in '95. They called it "onion rot" and said I had probably gotten it out of playing in the yard or something.

Cepacea's apparently out there naturally, but I wouldn't worry too too much about it.

I've never heard the organic food thing, but it makes sense.

Burkholderia cepacia is a bacteria that can fight against certain fungi, etc (biocontrol) and since it is not synthetic - - occurs naturally, usage of this as a natural pesticide allows for better organic crops. Organic farmers have used this as means to maintain organic status still have decent crops. I believe some time back (years) the CFF lobbied to have B cepacia outlawed on its use be/c of its harm to CF patients. Historically B. cepacia was part of the pseudomonas genus that is known for its virulent characteristics. It is still used as a biocontrol with permission (see link below) by the EPA. Though as others have said, it is ubiquitous/ all over in our environment - known to be in the soil and water.
