CF ARTICLE IN GLAMOUR MAGAZINE

I'm just curious what you wanted to exactly say about the article in the Glamour magazine? People die everyday, and people with CF always die too, so can you please tell me what you wanted to state? Did it affect you? How old was he/she? Was it sudden? Did he/she have kids? Would you suggest we all CFers purchase the magazine? How old was the individual? If the true life story is encouraging, I would consider purchasing the magazine. A lot of people, including myself, enjoy life to an extreme. I have 4 children, a husband, and I am almost 40. I have lived so much of a fullfilling life that when I die (we are all going to die some day, this is a guarantee) I can tell you that my story would be very encouraging and would offer Hope to everyone. Some people live to be 90 and die, never living the fullfilling life I have lived. Life is all about choices. How do you look at the glass? Half full? Or, Hall Empty? Just some words of wisdom from a person who lives one day at a time with God in Control of my Life.

I was just letting this board know about an article in a popular magazine. There are not that many CF articles published compared to cancer\diabetes\etc., and thought someone might want to read it. By the way, I am a Christian and I am thankful for all my blessings. I live life looking at the glass half full on some days and half empty on others, because I am human. Why would you right such a defensive response to such a simple statement?

The article is about Laura Rothenberg, the young woman (22years old) who was featured in a national public radio program and who also wrote a book before she passed away called "Breathing fo a Living" It is inspirational and sad. I was glad to learn from this post about the article and I checked it out before purchasing it. Thank you whoever you are for posting it.

Yes thank you very much. I am going to go check out the magazine next visit to the store. If it looks interesting I will purchase it. I too am a Christian. I am very thankfull for what I have and know there is a reason for things I don't have. It doesn't matter really what the article is saying insprational or whatever. As long as it is getting the word out about CF. People/children get misdiagnosed all the time because CF is not that well known.

To the "person who lives one day at a time with God in Control of my Life." There was no need to take offense to this person's post. In my opinion, any ink that CF gets in widely read magazines is great. That means potentially thousands of people who didn't know about CF will. We have all at some point in our life said " I have cystic fibrosis," only with someone to reply, "What's that?" Mary

I agree, any articles published in widely read magazines is great. Although I think that more people are starting to learn and hear about CF there are still too many that ask that question mentioned before, "what is that?". I myself am thankful for the heads up about the article. I will be going out today to take a look and see for myself. Thanks.Liza

I thought the article worked hard to deliver the message that PWCF have good, full lives, regardless of length, and are not these helpless, invalid types. Here are some websites where you can hear Laura's NPR piece, "My So-Called Lungs" or read the transcript of it. I belive the whole idea here was to let everyone know that a more famous magazine had an article regarding CF. If you want to find out what aspect of CF it displays then I would say that you buy it. I always get excited to here CF mentioned in the media in some form because at least its out there. Sometimes its up to "us" to fill in the holes or give the other side, but its a start & I for one welcome it.<img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-happy.gif" border="0">

I think that maybe what the first person was responding to was not the mention of a Glamour mag article, but just the way the it was presented?..."FYI: IN THE JULY 2003 ISSUE OF GLAMOUR MAGAZINE THERE IS AN ARTICLE ABOUT A GIRL WHO DIED OF CF"no one with CF likes to hear such a thing put so bluntly...also a popular 'slick' magazine like Glamour might tend to sensationalize such things, which I certainly, as a person w/ CF, would not think of as any kind of desirable notice for the disease. I can see why so & so posted a defensive response. It wasn't a girl who died of CF, but a girl who lived a hell of a lot with CF.

Hi everyone...I read the article in the magazine...I thought it was very sad, but very real for everyone with CF. I say if this helps people to realize how terrible of a disease this can be....publish it! Dea

I also purchased the magazine and read it. I agree with you both. It was sad, and very real. Makes me even MORE thankful for my life, even if it isn't easy. Thank you for posting about it being in the magazine ~ Diane
