I was diagnosed at age 54 by an allergist. I am now 63. I was always sick as a child, but they didn't know what caused it. The doctors told my mom that I had weak lungs (good guess) I had polyps and had over 20 surgeries on my nose & sinuses over the years. I had many allergies, so the doctors thought. Surgeries were done in the USA, Canada & Switzerland. When I was younger they probably didn't look for it because kids just died. My dad was in the military, and they just gave you a shot of pennacillin anytime. Probably saved my life. As I grew older, I had seen so many doctors, they probably all thought someone else had ruled it out. I am working full time, and on a maintenance dose of antibiotics for the last 12 years. PFT are @ 65 and have been since I was diagnosed. I am very lucky!

I just turned 54. Fev1 63%. Diagnosed at age 24. I'm a doctor and my brother and I are the only two cf patients to have three genetic mutations of cf. I have had about 100 pancreatic episodes, but mostly respiratory. Mrsa, pseudomonas, staph. I love cayston, tobi and the acapella! My brother is 49 and compelete pancreatic failure with horrific daily pain. Very difficult to manage yet his Fev1 are 85-90%. Had my first child a week after my 50th birthday! She was born via surrogate with a donor egg. She is my light and my life. My husband is supportive and keeps me going. My daily mantras are "you can get thru this" and "do no harm to my patients." I love every aspect of life and will fight till my last breath to stay on this earth. I've done my share of fund raising, I've spoken to many young cfers and I've lost some of the most wonderful people to this illness. Never give up even at your lowest point and always remember your not alone. Don't let CF define you, define yourself. By the way I think all our mucus combined could maybe solve global warming or be used for gasoline or make more mucinex commercials!!! LOL!!
