I did Tiger-1 (denufosol) I got 2 new Pari compressors, a backpack, a car inverter so I could do nebs on the road and compensation for travel and per visit. The compensation per visit would vary depending on length and what was involved. The checks came from the university of pittsburgh.

My assumption is that whichever center you are participating at may kick in some compensation on their own above what the pharm company does. That assumption seems to be supported by some of the earlier comments with differing compensation for the same study. Seems the compressors and nebs were pretty much standard and the rest came from the center itself.

Interesting though. I never gave it much thought.

I took Lindsay's advice and called my clinic's research coordinator...because my clinic is a military treatment facility, they are not allowed to accept compensation for studies and trials...what a bummer...but I know that the ultimate payoff is getting the drug approved...my dd had great results from it...: )

I'm also wondering if bigger city hospitals tend to have more funding for research to compensate (since I've done studies in Philly, Denver and Chicago - all pretty major hospitals). I also factor in all the free lab work and "check ups" I get during a study...those are just more things I don't have to submit to insurance (or pay for) and sometimes that's reason enough to do a study! Plus, I figure we don't get to complain about the lack of drugs, if we're not willing to be the guinea pigs!

my checks for participating in various clinical trials over the years always came from UNC. i don't think i've ever gotten a check directly from a drug company....gotten some free equipment though which is a pretty sweet deal <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-wink.gif" border="0">
