Hello I am a 35 yr young female with CF, diagnosed at the age of 3 yrs. I have a question. first of all do any of you women have a normal menstral cycle? Why you ask? Well, I'm exspecting my period well any time now supposedly but my b/f and I have been having unprotected sex for a month now......everyday sometimes 3-4 times a day! My question is: Can you still go through all the symptoms of thinking you are getting your period, but don't get it because you're pregnant? Can you still get cramps and stuff like that a week b4 but then it (your period) doesn't come. My b/f wants me to get a pregnancy test done but I say why? It'll proly be negative anyhow, so why bother? But, can you go through all the symptoms of getting your period and then not get one? The reason why I'm asking also is because my mom was pregnant for three months while still getting her period but didn't know she was pregnant...........with me. Any ideas/suggestions pls?!

I can't really answer your question about the symptoms of your period and it not coming but can tell you what I have experienced myself. Although I do not have CF myself, my daughters do. I too, like your mom had a (just one not three like your mom) period while I was pregnant. I had all the normal bloating, crampyness, etc and even spotted but it never really came like a full period. When I discovered I was pregnant another month later they counted it as a full period. Needless to say it ended up screwing up my due date and even made them think I was having twins. Only for them to decide in my 2nd trimester that they had miscalculated my due date, by that time it had been adjusted twice already. I'd say if you are usually fairly regular. I know that periods can be sporadic to non-existant in CF'ers. But if yours is normal, then I would take your boyfriends advice and get a pregnancy test done. Good luck, with whichever outcome you desire. Liza

You definitely need to have a pregnancy test done. Many things can make a change in a woman's cycle. Anything from meds to food to lack of sleep. Also please note that there is never such thing as a false POSITIVE result only a false NEGATIVE. Should you do a home test & it comes back negative, but you question it. Please do another one or go to the doctor for another &/or blood test. Depending on the women depends on when the levels of hormones connected to pregnancy are high enough to read from a urine test. Unfortunately with CF, many meds can affect the baby so its important that early detection be known. Good Luck!
