do you prepare for your pfts? (besides keeping up with your chest pt and meds of course.)
do you have any technique u use while doing them?
i feel like pfts used to be a breeze for me and now i have lost my technique. i feel like they are harder for me.
what do they call it? test syndrome? when a student prepares and knows the material but then freezes up and forgets when they see the test. thats how pfts have been for me. i get kinda stressed about them.

I sometimes do some yoga breathing while I am waiting for the RT to come in and do them. I make sure I am standing up with my feet firmly on the ground, that type of thing. But I absolutely can't do them if someone other than the RT is in there with me (last time I went in my doc was in the room att he same time and I was so self conscious, I am sure that was a bit of the reson they were lower than usual). Plus, now that I had an abnormally low PFT (low for me) I do feel the pressure that I want to make sure it is up there back to normal again next time - not necessarily test anxiety - but health anxiety for sure!

I have learned to use "The Force", where I don't control the breathing, but my mind manipulates the computer for the numbers I want!!

Other than doing a few trial runs, just concentrating on your breathing and shutting out your surroundings for a while should help, though it takes a lot of practice. Also, worrying too much as to what the results are is probably the main cause, so not even thinking of that should improve your "butterfly" feeling...
