didnt read the replies but you can do a peak and trough with inhaled tobi (well peak only is necessary since it wont even be there for that) and the TOBI levels arent even detectable in your blood or are almost nonexistent (I had this done). Because it stays in the lungs, it goes direcetly to the source we need it and doesnt have to circulate systemically it would not be exposing your child. YOur doc probably looked up TOBI in general and did not have the foresight to realize there is a difference due to delivery mechanism.

I hope you feel better!

you'll find varying opinions on this subject, but i think thats good. you can get all the facts and see all your options.
my doctor did not reccomend tobi while preg and i chose not to do it. i did the research on it and felt that it was too high risk for me and my baby.
also, i have hearing damage from tobra so perhaps the realities that 'mycin' drugs cause this are more real to me than others. only meaning, since i've experienced it, i know it.
with all due respect to above posters, tobi does get into your bloodstream-it does not only stay in the lungs. of course, its in minute levels and surely safer than systemic tobra. but, to be accurate, it does cross the placenta albeit in minute amounts. the bottom line is that they really don't know as much about tobi as other drugs during preg bc there have been so few users since cf preg is such a new field. they do the best they can in determining safety and try to reason.
it is not for me to say whether it is 'safe' for pregnancy or not. all i could do is learn that facts and judge for my situation. confronted with a desperate situation during pregnancy i can't say what i'd do...if i had no alternative but to use tobi i probably would as long as it was a short course and not long term.
it is true, healty baby=healthy mommy. so use that rule to guide you. i'm sure you've discussed the risk benefit ratio with your docs.
there are so many abx we can use now, i chose to do other ones that had more proven, tested safety.
as a rule, i wouldn't go by a obgyn's opinion on tobi unless they were an obgyn that specialized in cf/resp pregnancies like mine did in which case she was familiar with all cf therapies. but still, for meds during preg i went with my cf docs expertise. i think thats the best way to go.
good luck and think positive thoughts!!! take long hot baths, read funny happy preg stories and dream of baby and HEY-you may not even need abx!

I'm glad - I finally got the 'okay' to go onto IV tomorrow... I will be on Aztreonam and Zosyn, which are both category B drugs while pregnant... and I was on them the month that I conceived, so everything should be fine. It's so crazy how fast this bug is progressing so good thing the IV is coming!

Thanks everyone for your opinions and suggestions - it's so good to know I can always come here and get good advice from other women who know what I am going through!!!!

i go in tomorrow to. i am scheduled at the clinic at 12:30 for a pft and at 3 to have a picc placed. they went ahead and set up a picc placement at my request and after my doctor heard me cough over the phone. i also requested that i NOT be admitted to the hospital this time. i just like being home so much better and i sleep better at home as well. i'm not being woke up every 3 hours for something. funny how you said seems like the bug is progressing so quickly. i feel like my pa is flaring up so bad right now too. good luck on ur iv's though! and hopefully you start feeling better soon!<img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-happy.gif" border="0">
