Dr Phil

Ugghhh

I hate Dr.Phil

I say that as someone who has spent years in therapy. I think Dr.Phil does more harm than good....I mean how many people are scared to go to therapy because they think its going to be like a Dr.Phil show? Or watch Dr.Phil as a therapy subsitute. You can't even go to his show if currently in therapy or on anti-depressants. He's way to rough with some people, too soft with others. He rewards bad behaviour. And he knows nothing about some of the issues he has dealt with on his show...which is obvious just watching it(the one on self injury comes to mind)

He also sticks his nose in places it doesn't belong...Natalee Holliday case anyone?

just like everything else if you dont like it dont watch it.
my brother in law is a phsycology major (i know not the same as the real thing) anyway he told me dr phil isnt even a phsycologist but really a family therapist or something totally different than what i thought he was or degree wise because he acts like a all round therapist on his show when he has a degree in this one thing. sorry i cant even remember excatly what it is

i dont agree with all of what he says. but sometimes when i do watch it and there is someone on there that is obviously being stupid, no mental problems just being dumb, he tells it like it is. i like that. no not everyone deserves that of course they dont especially if they need real help. but you know the people i am talking about that they have a problem that is easily solved and you just want to slap them because they know how to fix it but they refuse to. especially the ones that do it for the drama and attention. does that make any sense?

The respiratory therapist is my daughter's nurse. Her daughter has had the transplant and is doing well....in fact, she just spoke at our annual 65 Roses Gala in November and told her "Life with CF Story" I also believe that they have grown closer since the show and her mom understands what she needs to do as a mom I will try to find out if they will be on again and will let you all know.

Dr Phil does make sure that he checks with 'specialists' when it is out of his territory of knowledge, and he does make sure that he gives that credit where credit is due.

Dr. Phil is indeed a Dr. He has a PhD in psychology. So, although he's not a doctor of medicine he is a doctor.

Personally, I preferred him when he was a regular guest on Oprah. He seemed much more insightful then. I think that the pressure to have a successful show (that airs 5 days a week) has led him to take on more of a sensationalist type talk show format. Unfortunately that's the nature of the viewers (and listeners of radio); the more shocking it is, the more likely people are to watch it.

He is a bit "in you face" but do you want someone to kiss your butt or do you want someone to tell you how it is? If you want someone to kiss your butt, then he's not the therapist for you. Fact is when you seek out a therapist you have to choose one that works for you.

Let's be honest here... If you seriously have a need for therapy and a desire to make changes in your life, are you going to go and see Dr. Phil one time in front of millions of people in hopes of changing your life? I think not. You can get more out of reading his books than doing that. I guess the one bonus is that he usually sets up follow-up therapy for people.

I think any exposure is better than none at all as it has been for years. Some of his stuff is a bit ridiculous but I still watch as there's not much on at 3pm. HeeHee. Hopefully its an informative show on the disease and transplant but I'm not getting my hopes up. Take care everyone.

I still hope he gets hit by a flaming cement truck filled with clowns stuffed with plastique going over a cliff.

...LMAO!! Sean, you make me laugh...you're about as random as I am...*lol* And I REALLY hate clowns, so it works for me. As for Dr. Phil...I'll say I simply choose not to watch daytime TV and leave it at that.

I'm just refreshing this thread to remind you that it's rumored that a woman w/CF is to be on Dr. Phil tomorrow (Tues).
Hope

I just saw the show and thought the segment was great. What a beautiful couple. Gwen is absolutely adorable. I thought they did a pretty good job describing what the illness is and what the treatments are. They also mentioned the need of organ donation which made me happy.

I wish the couple well and hope we can photos of the wedding!

I started to cry, it is very surreal to watch someone with the very disease you have to go through so much devastation. Espeically when they showed her standing with the lungs they took out. It makes you think. They did a good job explaining cf and all the parts of the body that it affects. The organ donor part was great. I would have liked them to maybe put some web info or something at the end on the organ donation. But that's all I would have changed.

As for encouraging Sean's pitiful sence of humor. Please don't.

I watched the Dr. Phil show today as well. I thought the couple was very cute and sounds like they are soul mates. I hope their wedding goes well and their marriage filled with a lifetime of love, laughter, and happiness! They have had so much pain in their lives so far they deserve a beautiful life together.

Yeah because I'm the only one that sees that self inflating, opportunistic, camera whore for what he is. While I will always be thankful for any exposure that CF gets (because the general exposure most people experience is close to zero), i can condemn those who atleast to me, seem to be turds. Here is a good tipoff (agree with me or not), a southern guy his shape, who puts out a diet book? Sorry, he knows his way around a honey baked ham more than me, and I thought I had explored every possible crevice of that beautiful succulent indulgence. While you might totally feel different than me, with regards to Dr. Phil, I can only ask if you have personal experiences with people that you have heard of having met their demise in/around a cement truck that was on fire piloted by clowns stuffed with plastique hitting someone, and then going over a cliff. If you have gone through this, I can only extend my hand to you in a sincere sense of sorrow, because noone should go through that unless *you* can't stand them.

Oh wait Becky, were *we* discussing someone's "pitiful sense of humor"? And more importantly others realizing and appreciating the levity of me saying such things, in a joking manner about Dr. Phil? Or do you think that others besides myself should reevaluate their appreciation and understanding of the word "humor"? If you still aren't sure Becky, just ask out loud, and I can direct you to some very good books and movies, and even classical plays showcasing the different aspects of humor, and the value it has played within the human psyche. Of course none of that is needed, when you automatically take offense to someone saying something with levity in mind regarding something you hold dear. I mean, who needs individualistic thought?

I don't hate Dr. Phil but I dont like him either I guess I'm in the middle. I see it as if you dont like it don't watch! and to wish someone harm you dont know or even know for that matter is just sad and I feel sorry for you. Like I said I'm not a Dr. Phil fan, but anyone who can and will get the word out about CF to people who dont know a damn thing about it, is ok in my book. He does have so many fans out there that dont know about this disease and now they know and maybe now they will go and be an organ donor, and if you need a transplant and one of these people that are fans of Dr. Phil is your donor that wouldnt be unless he/she watched his show I myself as a mother of a CF little boy feel grateful to him.

What surprised me is that at the end he said he wasn't an organ donor! I mean, pretty much everyone I know is one, its just standard when you renew your license. Plus, if you are somelike like the almighty Dr. Phil dont you think you might have THOUGHT about it before?

Maybe he was just saying that to "relate" to other people and make them go do it, but still....
