Drinks on me!

I've kind of wondered about this also. I'm 22, but I've never been one to drink at all just b/c I don't like the taste of most alcohol and I think drinking to get drunk is really stupid. My fiance's aunt and uncle gave us a bottle of sparkling wine for our engagement present though, and I tasted it and liked it so we ended up splitting the bottle between us. I hadn't had a huge meal, I had never had more than one sip before, and I'm only 5'2" 110lbs. So I thought it was weird that I didn't feel anything at all.

Anyway, I don't really have any answers, just thought I'd share another story.

Brandi - although it may seem like I am lecturing here, I am just offering some advice (so please don't take it the wrong way). You are only 14 years old and have a lifetime ahead of you. So, please try to be respobsible and don't drink yet because you may find yourself with many other problems besides CF, like alcoholism, which will cause more problems with your CF. I hope for the best for you...and hope that you are doing well, despite what problems you are having right now (hope that makes sense)!!! Seek advise from your CF clinic...maybe they can help!

well if you cant swallow your pride and accept something that has been scientifically proven, then on your head be it. me and anon are only telling you this for your own safety. drink all you want, but dont be fooled into thinking cf has given you a high tolerance.

alright..sorry jeeze...all this post was for was to see if you had a high tolerance too...not to hound on me saying its been scientificaly prooven...and maybe you and the annon are in the same boat..but the way your talking makes it seem you despise me because of it...

Yeah, it's not like Brandi was saying she wants to go out and drink herself stupid. You just assumed that. If someone said they were wanting to drink all their problems away, then it's all right to say something, but you were kind of killing a lighthearted thread. Of course I don't condone drinking, especially with CF, but sometimes it just happens, like an aunt offering you tequilla under the table, or some guy next to you on the airplane who's so drunk, he thinks you're his best friend and gives you a bunch of gin and vodka (my case) And yes, that was my first time drinking, and I hadn't had that much to eat... And even if I had, that amount of gin and vodka should have plastered me, but all i got was a slight buzz and even that went away after I had a pee. Many cfers have similar stories. Whether it's a interaction with a common medication or something about the CF gene, there does seem to be a correlation. And kylie, I still don't see any scientific proof that there isn't a correlation. if you give some, then of course I will believe you, though. =-)

I dunno, i can drink a lot if i want to. I've had 10 shots of tequilla and then half a picture( i can't remember how to spell it) of sex on the beach, and then i passed out. It depends if i go out and drink a little every night i can build up quite a tolerance, but if i just go out now, i could only take about 7 shots of tequilla before being really drunk. Oh btw i'm 5'5 about 115-120 lbs.

I signed my name, This is Becky and I didn't feel I was being harsh. Just honest. Brandi I'm ussually on your side but honestly putting the word out that possibly CF'ers have a high tolerance to alcohol is not responsible. You have to think there are young people that read this forumn. I also think you really don't have that much experience to make such and assumption. What youve probly drank a handful or more times at your age. Hmmmm. Dont think thats alot of experience under your belt. The only thing we were saying is your fooling yourself into thinking you have a high tolerance to alcohol. It makes me laugh. Becky in mich

I wonder if it's more an issue of being use to the side effects of drugs (I mean let's face it, who hasn't been on tons of rx drugs?!) SO, it's not so much that the alcohol isn't affecting you but just that you can tolerate the side effects more so you don't notice the side effects from drinking as much?? Does that make sense?

Shamrock here, no I meant in NO way to offend brandi at all. In fact I read what i wrote and it said 'maybe it has to do with the colour of your hair' I didnt mean Brandi's hair, just like the plural 'you' in fact I didnt even know she had purple hair when i wrote that (as you can tell because after that she wrote i dyed my hair purple, so theres no way I could've known, unless I was some sort of transatlantic stalker weirdo person, which is possible, but untrue!!) Your comment made me laugh.
Anyway sorry for rambling, Shamrock, x
