He has to take one capsule with each meal for a week, then progress to two with each meal next week. Dr said he has mild malabsorption (5 yo 44" tall 42 lbs) and wants to see if he will gain any weight. At his 5yo physical in Sept his ped said he was doing great with his wt/ht (this was before he was diagnosed with CF). He's always had soft, light colored stools without much odor, but since he started the Creon 10 they have been stinky, darker and still soft. Is that normal? I'm not sure whether to call the dr or not to see if this is normal at the beginning.

Thanks for any help!!

Hi Sharon,

You also want to look to see if they sink or float. You want them to sink. As long as it is somewhat formed and sinks instead of floats I think you are ok. The darker color is a good sign, too. Lighter yellow or gray stools signify a problem with malabsorbtion. My son also has trouble with greasy stools. Gross, but just to let you know...the toilet often looks like you have just washed spaghetti dishes in it...with grease lining the bowl and forming drops on top of the water.

Fun CF stuff, huh?! <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-wink.gif" border="0">
Good luck, and I wish you quick weight gain!
