dumb question

Does having CF mess up pregnancy tests? Maybe by not allowing hcg to be detected as soon as healthy women would?
I am 3-4 days past my normal luteal phase and still getting neg hcg tests.
I know alcohol is not detected correctly in my breath. I did an experiment a few years back with it. Our friend that is a police officer allowed my husband and I to try the breath-a-lizer. I had 3 tequila shots and three margaritas within two hours and my husband had 2 tequila shots and two margaritas within the same time limit.
His breath-a-lizer was way over the legal drinking limit and mine registered way lower than the legal drinking limit.
So this tells me that my liver somehow metabolizes alcohol very differently than my husbands.
So can it be the same for HCG???? Although I dont think that hcg has anything to do with the liver, but can it not be detected by an hcg test even though I may still be pregnant?

Based on my experience, I would say no. Both times I was PG, I knew exactly when I ovulated because we did IUI and I got a positive PG test at 11 days past ovulation.

Interesting to hear about the alcohol - did you feel drunk? I would have been wasted if I drank that much in two hours. LOL.

Hi Khristina,
I am not sure on the hcg levels. I will say that for me personally, my hcg levels were low and I had a faint + at day 14 in the afternoon (w/o holding my urine beforehand). The next morning I did a fmu hpt, and it was also +, but still very light. I joke and say that no one would have even seen my first + unless they were really looking hard to find it.

In general, I had slow rising hcg levels and was being drawn every other day for the next two weeks after I had my confirmed blood work. My levels weren't to a satisfactory doubling until after week 6.
HTH- good luck!

Thanks for replying ladies!

Kristen yes I was wasted and could barely walk lol. Thats why wanted to use the breath-a-lizer.

Christina the fact that your hcg was slow rising Im sure was stressful for ya. I am glad it worked out for the better.

I finally started my period this morning so I guess the tests were right. So on to next month <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif" border="0"> I have an appt with a RE the end of this month so hopefully he will give us better options!!

I don't know, but opks (hcg) do not work for me. Even though I am ovulating they just don't detect it. I don't know if my levels are too low or its something with my urine/kidneys...
btw, its confirmed by my obgyn that they do not work, and I recall her saying that urine tests just don't work for some women.
My mil is completely insensitive to pregnancy tests. She's had 9 pregnancies and every single time, home preg tests were negative-even up to 6 weeks after her missed period. She always had to have to blood test done to confirm pregnancy.
I doubt its a Cf thing. Probably a person to person thing.
