Encephalopathy caused by abx??

I went to the sleep disorder specialist on Tuesday. I really like this guy! He spent an hour with me asking questions to try and determine why I all of a sudden developed horrible insomnia. I told him that this started while I was on IVs and he looked up both drugs I was on (tobra and cephapime) and apparently cephapime can cause encephalopathy. Which is:

Encephalopathy literally means disease of the brain. It is a brain malfunction in the face of systemic metabolic derangements due to cardiopulmonary, renal, hepatic or endocrine disease.

He said that anything that effects the brain can cause insomnia. He's also convinced that the insomnia was triggered by something because it came on all of a sudden. He's not positive that the abx did it, but he is leaning that way.

I am now on TWO different perscription sleep aids (lunesta and rozerem), have cut out ALL caffeine (which is not a bad thing of course but has not been easy!), am trying to practice sleep hygeine, which doesn't always happen. I go back to the doc on the 25th.
