i failed my three hour glucose test today. it really sucks cause i hate and i mean i hate needles. i've never had a problem with my blood sugar. before i drank the lovely little drink they give you it my sugar was 80, drank the orange drink, one hour later 208, two hours later 194, three hours later 171. anyone have any advice for me? the doctor wants me to chart my sugar for a week and then come back and he'll go from there. so now i have to go get a meter. really dreading it all! just one more thing to add to the pile i guess.

i had bought the walmart brand meter and it worked just fine. i charted my sugars and tried to eat right, but my post breakfast numbers were always high. so my peri put me on glyburide. everything will be ok. just like the previous post said, exercise after you eat. i walked in place sometimes

I like the approach your doc is taking. Very reasonable. You may find that you don't have high sugars based on your diet - and that you'll simply need to monitor them througout. Checking bs isn't too bad, though it seems overwhelming at first.
I don't really have any advice, since I wasn't GD, but there are a lot of moms here who were/are, so you should be able to get a lot of good advice from them!

Wanderlost brings up a good point- my blood sugars were really high with my GD test. They didn't even finish my test, since it was so high after 2 hours- almost 300- they just sent me on to the diabetes clinic ("Do not pass go..." lol). My biggest issue was things with refined sugar. I could eat spagetti and meatballs for example, and be fine, but if I ate even a couple of jellybeans for dessert afterwards, boom! up it went. It made a huge difference for some reason, but that may have just been me, too .

I may have a coupon for a free meter, if you would like it. I'll pm you if I still have it, and if it is still good. I also found out that my insurance covers my test strips and lancets, and I can get 100 test strips for my $30 copay, and I even found a coupon in the paper for $10 off of that. I tested and charted a lot when I started out, so I had a good idea of what I could and couldn't eat.
