On Thursday August 18th, Heather Rachelle Best of Wenatchee, Washington passed peacefully in the ICU at the University of Washington in Seattle. She was 25 and had fought hard after her new lungs were placed in April. Despite much love and care from family and medical staff, the rejection won out. <div><br></div><div>She is greatly missed by mom Bobbi, dad Darrold, sister Kelsie, and especially her lovely daughter Mackinzie, the light of her life. She was surrounded by family and friends, those who loved her dearly and were loved by her in return.</div><div><br></div><div>Fly free, beautiful lady. No more pain for you, only for those who still love you...</div><div><br></div><div>                         @-}--}-----</div>

I am so sorry, John. Heather's mother is a member of another CF group I am part of and she has many there holding her in their thoughts and prayers as well. Comfort and peace to all of you... <img src="i/expressions/rose.gif" border="0">

Gone six months today, and I can still see her face and hear her voice (and still have some of her texts in my phone). On her December birthday we released balloons with messages on them at the cemetery, and on Valentines she was covered in flowers. Her cat is lying by me as I type. Gone but never forgotten...

It has been exactly one year ago today since Heather left. Her life was commemorated today by a beginning of her Bucket List. A school friend of hers and I went to jump out of an airplane at 12,500 ft with a tandem instructor in the morning, something Heather said over and over again that she wanted me to take her on. We both had a great time, and could hear Heather laughing all the way out of the sky. Tonight there is a small family and friends BBQ at her doctor's home. I did my remembering in the afternoon, taking her favourite Caramel Silk frozen coffee up to the cemetery at 230, the time she passed on. For some reason she loved a crazy song called 'Toes' by the Zac Brown Band, so I found it on YouTube on my iPhone, and placed it on her headstone. We have gone through all the 'firsts', the birthdays, Valentines, Mother's Day, and now she has been gone more than a year. Ouch...

Out of the sadness, I have gained a wonderful nine-year-old god-daughter in Mackinzie. We do many things together; I teach her guitar lessons, we do her homework, go for burgers, and yesterday I taught her how to pack a parachute. She has become the light of my life, smart and giving like her mother. I'm already saving for the future orthodontics. Wait till she finds out that I bought us tickets to see Justin Bieber live from the 25th row in front of the stage in October. Her head may explode. My silver lining in the grey clouds.

And on into the second year of challenge and remembering...
