feeding tube and enzymes

I just had my first feeding tube placed this week. Ive asked the drs and they havent been able to give me a definitive answer so I know ill be able to get one here.
When do you take your enzymes if you run the feeding tube over night while you sleep? Do I just take a full meals dose right when I start it before I fall asleep, or do I take partial doses and set alarms throughout the night to keep taking moderate doses? Please give me your inputs on what works best for you!!!

I just took the meals worth dose of enzymes and did the feeding to gravity so it got in quickly, I guess it depends what your dietician suggests. I would also suggest getting sleepy before you start the feed (I use melatonin for a sleep aid) because for some reason it is hard to fall asleep while feeding.

i take 3 before my feeding starts and run it over 8 hours and then take 1 after its over.... my nutritionist figured out that one enzyme per can is about the right dosing ratio

I'm sorry but if you are suggesting this as advise, its not good advise for his particular case because everyone with CF is different and you haven't even gotten all the variables yet.

What forumla? What rate are you going at? What is your tolerance for max VTBI per night? How many enzymes do you take with a normal meal?
I am extremely PI and I take around 25 ezymes with my 2000 calorie feed. I take 10 at the start I wake up 4 1/2 hours into it and thake 10 more, and at the end I take 5. I take MT20s. While it is ideal to get enzymes throughout the feed they wont suggest it because they think most people won't wake up. I get much better absorption when doing it this way.
Your dietician will be able to figure it out based on the amount of fat in the feed, because enzymes are dosed off of lipase. So take the total number of enzymes you should need, and then divide it by how many 5 hours you want to run it for. So if you run your feeds for 10 hours and you are supposed to take 20 enzymes for the amount of enzymes you should take, you'd take 10 at the start and 10 in the middle (5 hour mark). General rule is enzymes in the gut last 4-5 hours.
I run at a rate of 130ml/hr to 170ml/hr depending what I'm trying to accomplish.
I will say that YES it is difficult to fall asleep when feeding, so try melatonin as suggested above, if that doesn't work you may want to try something else.

I do 2.5 cans of 2 cal hn. In my case I take 4 creon 25 before feeds. It would probably be a good idea for me to break up my enzymes and get up in the middle of the night to take some, but I guess I'm lazy?? I do pretty well as is though. I run my feeds over 8 hours as well.
I actually don't have any trouble falling to sleep while running my feeds. I'm so used to sleeping with my o2 concentrator and my feeds that post-transplant I'm probably going to have to invest in a white noise machine <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif" border="0">
