Fixing my voice

I need remedies for making my voice come back!!!! It is so hoarse and sounds so bad I pretty much squeak and that is it. I went out with my friends over the weekend and we watched a band play so of course we had to talk a little louder. And I have never really gotten it back from when I was sick 3 weeks ago. I am tired of sounding like a mouse.

Anyone have any ideas what to do? It doesn't hurt at all, but it sounds like I am straining to talk.

Think I need to see an ENT???

Everytime I hear these stories I cant help but wonder if the person has a paralyzed vocal cord like I do.

An ENT can tell you that.....hopes its nothing serious. I do know the annoyance. Mine last 6 months before getting relief with this temporary fix.

Right up my alley! I am a speech-language pathologist and I know there are a few others on here. An ENT would be best able to view your vocal cords and see what is going on there. If it has lasted 3 weeks, I would go. I assume it will be swollen vocal cords or nodules from coughing (the vocal cords slam together when you cough/yell).
The best thing you can do to regain your voice (if it is because of swollen vocal cords or nodules) is vocal rest. That means try not to talk, and especially do not whisper (people think it is more gentle but it is worse!) Drink plenty of liquids. It will be impossible not to cough but try not to clear your throat if possible. Also acid reflux can irritate the vocal cords (how many times have I typed "vocal cords"?)so don't nknow if you are already on meds for that, but something to think about.

I'm sorry that you are having voice problems, Amy. That sucks. I have a lot of problems with my voice, too.

Some things that help me, not sure if they work for everyone:

Opt for hot drinks rather than cold drinks.

Try leaning over a pot of hot water or taking hot showers. Steam usually helps me.

If you are on Tobi, mix some albuterol in there with it so it's not so harsh.

Make sure you're not doing Pulmozyme or Tobi too close together. Also, make sure you're doing your Tobi at least 6 hours + apart. I noticed that if I do mine too close together, it could make my voice worse.

Good luck!
