Flaxseed and pregnancy

I went to the doc yesterday to my Diabetis doc and to the high risk Ob clinic. the Diabetis Doc wants me to add more protien to my diet to help me to maintain my wieght. Since they have told me to cut my carbs down to help with the blood sugar issue I have lost weight and have not gained it back. Well, anyways flax has protien in it. So, I was gonna add some to my hot cereal in the morning along with powdered milk. I am trying to add protein and fat to food to offset the loss of the carbs. I have read a ton of articles on Flax seed, the grain type, and found that it seems to be okay in normal doses. What are normal doses?? Like the 2 tablespoons suggesed on the box per serving?? or is that too much?? Also the link to estrogen and flaxseed seems to be a question. Soy also has an estrogen effect as well. That seems to have some significance with pregnancy. I kinda wonder if I should stop reading so much stuff. The more I read on stuff the more I wonder what is safe to eat and what is not. Does anyone have a clue what I am talking about with the estrogen like effect of the flax and of the soy? And eaten in normal amounts ..suggested serving amounts if this is even anything to waste brain power on? Is there any sort of a real risk?? I have been drinking soy for months now with no problems......anyone have any work on the flax during pregnancy?

I'm not pregnant yet, but I'm trying and I've done alot of research about flax. I don't know about taking it in the cereal form, but it sounds digestible. I take it in the oil form, b/c I'm a big believer in EFAs. It's very safe for pregnancy, and actuallly essential in babys brain development.

Forgot, wanted to add-I've read that soy in reasonable amounts is no harm to pregnancy. But, soy is not too easy to digest, so for me personally I'd rather do the flax. I also feel that flax has many more benefits, but again I do the oil form.

I have this one pregnancy/self help book, and at one point the author says, at this point in your life will start to read that every thing you do and eat will harm your baby. Not true. Interesting to me, b/c I think we do have to stop "believing everything we read" when it comes to this. I'm sure preg women in Asian countries ate soy for centuries, right? But I know how you feel-you don't want to do any teeny tiny thing that will hurt this baby. I guess this is one of many judgement calls you will have to make.

4. Flax provides fats that are precursors for brain building. This is especially important at the stage of life when a child's brain grows the fastest, in utero and during infancy. A prudent mom should consider supplementing her diet with a daily tablespoon of flax oil during her pregnancy and while breastfeeding.

Mixing flax oil with yogurt helps to emulsify the oil, improving its digestion and metabolism by the body.

Just wanted to update, though if anyone still feels uncomfortable using flax then go with your gut, but-
I just got off the phone with my OB and she said flax in the reccomended daily dose (1-2 Tbl) is 100% fine and good for baby's brain development.
She said there's alot of cautioning info out there about it for people that say, eat it with every meal, b/c that may not be good. But she said there's no proven study that's it harmful and for me, someone who has trouble absorbing nutrients from my food, the EFA from it will be helpful to the fetus.
So-I'm going to go with her word. Again, I always think if you don't feel comfortable with it, then absolutely don't. But I just figured I'd let you know anyway.
