Gestational Diabeties and CF

I recently found out at my last Ob appt that I have gestational diabetes. I have started to test my blood sugar to find patterns in what I eat as to what my blood sugar levels are. I am a healthy eater to start with, so I guess I really have to tighten my belt on this one. I already decided to rule out all liquids with sugar and to limit the breads for carb intake. It is obvious to avoid all the sweets. Any other ideas?? I really don't want this to cause problems for me or the baby. I keep thinking high protein, low sugar. The carbs really seem to be getting me. Has anyone gotten through it with diet and sucessfully controlled their blood sugar? What were the numbers that they got to when it was controlled? I was wondering how many of you had gotten the gestational diabetes and then after delivery it went away and did not eventually turn into CFRD. I hope that I have not asked too many questions, but this current diagnosis has gotten me concerned.

Much Love and Thanks

Hi Johnna, I dont have CF but I did have GD. Another key thing to remember is after you eat any meal, take a walk...enough to get your heart pumping. Thats what I was told to do. (EVERY meal) I also measured EVERYTHING I ate.

My husband didnt like me to walk in the neighborhood alone so I walked the perimeter of the outside of my house & in bad weather I would walk fast in every room of my house...what a site that was I bet. LOL They said to do this for about 15~30 minutes.

I didnt have to use any insulin, BUT I came close a few times. Meaning every week I had to check in w/ the dietition...& if my numbers were above I think 120 or 130 after an hour after I ate....thats wasnt good. And that happened a few times....but closer to my due date that happened so I kinda slipped a few times & didnt count it. *bad Leah*. HTH If you have any other questions please ask.<img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif" border="0">
