Hi

I am trying to get some insight and/or information on the enzyme "Viokase" and "Zenpep" since the enzymes that I have been taking pretty much my whole life are no longer FDA approved. I use to take Pancrecarb, then that was switch to Pancrease until the FDA came out with an approved version of Pancrecarb. I know that I canNOT take the enzyme Creon b/c it hurts my stomach extremely bad. That is putting it nicely and I have given Creon it's fair chance. I am trying to find an enzyme that is closer to what Pancrecarb is b/c I love how it worked for me. Any information about those two enzymes would be greatly appreciated and very helpful!!! THANK YOU :]

My dietition at the cf clinic told me that the zenpep was very smilar to pancrease, and that she thinks i will like it much better! hope this helps you ...i have not yet heard about the other enzyme you mentioned (Viokase)
Good luck and God Bless!

I'm noticing a trend around here lately...
Yes, I'm going through the same thing. I've posted quite a few varying threads on this same exact subject the past week or so, and a few others have also.
Best wishes!!

Mallymookcf, Thank you! That really helps A LOT! I use to take Ultrace as well and loved it. I have switched on and off between Ultrace and Pancrecarb. Now that neither of those enzymes are on the market, I am lost as to which enzyme to try. I do know that Creon is horrible!!!! I will talk with my doctor and try the Zenpep! I am very hopeful that this will work since your dietitian said it's similar to Pancrease (which is the same as Pancrecarb). I will be praying for you! Hold your head high no matter how frustrating our struggles can be I hate tummy troubles, it can really ruin your day but God will not give you anything you cannot handle. There are two quotes I love. The first one is, " Life can only be understood backwards but must be lived forwards." and the second quote is, " When you change the way you look at things, the things you look at change."

Christian, I am sorry to hear that you are going through the same tummy troubles. When your enzymes don't work with you, it makes everything difficult. I am going to try the enzyme Zenpep b/c I have heard from a few people now that this enzyme works a lot like the enzyme Pancrease. Maybe it will be worth a try for you too. Knowing how rough stomach issues can be, I sincerely hope this enzyme will help you! Take care, God bless!

If you were on Pancrease and liked it, you can ask your dr to prescribe Pancreaze for you. It's the same formulation as Pancrease, just repackaged to accurately reflect the dosage, and for whatever reason they renamed it.

hmw, Thank you for that advice! I will talk to my doctor about Pancreaze as well as Zenpep. Anything but Creon is worth a shot

I found this link to compare different enzymes:

http://healthcare.utah.edu/pharmacy/alerts/447.htm

Which indicates Pancrease MT and Pancreaze are identical products; however, the product packaging for Pancreaze complies with FDA requirements for reporting of enzyme contents.
