Hillrom vs Respirtech

So I'm going to Japan in May for a consulting project.

First thing on my mind - I know how my vests work in Europe, but how will they function in Asia?

So I decided to write to Hillrom and Respirtech to figure out which one to bring with me. I find each reply very interesting.

Decide for yourselves:

---------------------------

My question, word for word, to HillRom:

"I will be traveling to Japan soon, however, and I am curious if this 104 will work in Japan without attachments?

Thank you in advance for your help!"

Reply:

"You may need an adaptor for your Model 104 machine while you are in Japan.
We would also like to inform you, if something should happen to the machine, while youare in Japan, the warranty is void. We do not ship out of the United States.

Have a safe trip.

Question to Respirtech word for word:

"I'm curious if the Respirtech Vest works in Japan?

I will be traveling there soon and I would like to find out if it works there. If not, what attachments will I need?

Thank you."

Respirtech's reply:

"
The US electrical standard is 120 VAC 60Hz. Japan uses a 100 VAC system with a frequency that can vary between 50 and 60 Hz. The inCourage system will operate properly when run on the Japanese standard. Due to the lower voltage, the blower pressure will be slightly lower than normal if you are normally using the system at 100%. It would be the equivalent of using the system at 80 to 90% here in the US.

If you are using the system at 80 to 90% or less here in the states, just turn up the blower pressure till it feels adequate. If you normally use the system at 100%, the system will operate properly, but it won't have the same amount of "Kick" you might be used to.

One last note, be sure to ground the system. If you cannot find a power outlet with a grounding pin, be sure to use an adapter that has a grounding wire that can be grounded.

Wow,
Nice reply from Hill-Rom. My husband is in PR and she did everything wrong. Can I please send her a friendly e-mail telling her how she could have handled things a little differently?

Well I agree that the Hill-Rom Tech did a superb job at giving an example of what NOT to do. I'm not sure she even read your question. But giving them some break, one customer service rep does not make up the whole company. I've dealt with several very helpful, knowledgeable and useful people at Hill-Rom. (and one or two idiots, but who is counting?? LOL)
