Bringing favorite things to make the stay better. Soft blankets, favorite food, ipod, laptop. That is what I do for my daughters when they go in.

We would hang everything...every card, every note...every drawing...all of it...Also as a working mom of a child who is 10 with CF...you can view who came in the room by hangin a sheet of paper or poster size board...called "Wall of Love" or wall of Encouragment...and anybody who came in would sign it....really good if patient leaves room n you miss someone or patient asleep...

special socks, the hospital ones slip off, her feet get cold and she likes fuzzy socks with non slip bottoms, or funky slippers. She is 7 and she gets so happy every day with a new pair. Also I let her make a list of stuff to pack prior ro admitting. We prepack with lotions, sanitizers that smell good, coloring books etc, so when we are admitted we grab the bag and it is her special thing just for the hospital. It gives her a sense of comfort and the preplanning gives her a sense of control in a very chaotic time.

Having support there with you whenever possible. I am lucky enough to be able to be with my husband a lot at the hospital and stay with him every night. The more support and love you have around you makes things easier. You really have to try to make their stay feel like they are somewhat at home.
