How many of you have problems with your teeth?

I have found one thing that bothers me, especially since I have had to have so many IV's...my teeth. Prior to repeated and prolonged IV's, my teeth were decent..white and without cracks or pits or anything. Now, they have discoloration, funky lines that remind me of fungal growth and just seem more brittle overall. I take calcium and try to avoid repeated use of whiteners, they can't be all that good for your teeth. I know that dental hygiene is very important, in fact it is always stressed with each visit with the doctor's because of the bacteria that like to hide out in our mouths. Also, if you do have problems like this, what do you do? Thanks...Jenn

I have a similar problem. The saliva we produce is different from normal because of all the drugs we take. Be sure to use a protective toothpaste and mouthwash (I like Colgate and Listerine). You may want to consider using an electric toothbrush as well. They are able to break up the weird biofilm that collects in our mouths.

Have you thought about saving up for veneers?

Jenn,

My teeth are moderately stained (yellow). When I was a teenager, I was sick often and on IV's once to twice a year. I always picked up everything that went around and ultimately through me in the hospital.

I brush my teeth around 4 times a day, not that it makes any difference. I also have had some precavities filled or whatever dentists do. Still, my mouth isn't too bad. It's really the discoloration. I remember being on liquid Keflex alot as a kid. That probably had alot to do with it.

One of Briceton's teeth is stained brown. All of the rest coming in seem to be a perfect shade of white. I asked his CF team as well as the ped. and I was basically told it was due to the medicines that he takes.
