Hymns

I was going through my old Bible; looking at all the notes and out fell my favorite hymn. (Does anyone sing hymns anymore? So many churches are just doing away with them, which is sad, 'cause I remember so many of them from since I was a kid and a lot of them have grown on me.) Anyway, i had written it down a few years ago and forgot about it. It's set to Russian music (the kind with a lot of minor chords) so it sounds all serious which I think is what made it my favorite. =-) The words are especially awesome, though:

"Touch me lord with thy spirit eternal
Stir my soul to respond to thy call
Take my love, for I offer it freely
Hear my prayer as I thank thee for all
Hear my prayer as I thank thee for all

Teach me lord to walk humbly before thee
May I hasten my will to obey
Make me wise to see clearly thy purpose
Keep me true to my calling I pray
Keep me true to my calling I pray

Fill me lord with thine infinite power
Make me firm, make me pure, make me whole
With thy spirit to strengthen and guide me
I shall serve thee with all of my soul
I shall serve thee with all of my soul"

Ha ha, but actually, I like pretty much all hymn, which I guess is weird because no one else seems to. Oh well. =)

This is an old, old, old song, but it's one of my favorites. The Adon Olam, or master of the univerese. I'll give the words to you in English instead of Hebrew, cause I'm nice like that.

The Lord of the Universe who reigned
before anything was created.
When all was made by his will
He was acknowledged as King.

And when all shall end
He still all alone shall reign.
He was, He is,
and He shall be in glory.

And He is one, and there's no other,
to compare or join Him.
Without beginning, without end
and to Him belongs diminion and power.

And He is my God, my living God.
to Him I flee in time of grief,
and He is my miracle and my refuge,
who answers the day I shall call.

To Him I commit my spirit,
in the time of sleep and awakening,
even if my spirit leaves,
God is with me, I shall not fear.

You may want to create a seperate thread for this, so it will get more attention. =-)

Our church sings 3 hymns every sacrament meeting and in our other classes we sings hymns as well. My favorite hymn is this: I Stand All Amazed

I stand all amazed at the love Jesus offers me, Confused at the grace that so fully he proffers me I tremble to know that for me He was crucified that for me a sinner He suffered He bled and died.

chorus
Oh it is wonderful that he should care for me Enough to die for me! Oh, it is wonderful, wonderful to me!

I am not going to type the second verse, but the third verse is my favorite

I think of His hands pierced and bleeding to pay the debt! Such mercy, such love, and devotion can I forget? No, No, I will praise and adore at the mercy seat, Until at the glorified throne I kneel at his feet.

Have you heard the CD? I checked out the web site yesterday and wondered about it.
My favorite hymn: It is well with my soul.

We still sing hymns as well!!!! Our new young pastors said they would alternate old hymns to contemporary. Our youth usually leads us in the contemporary songs. One of my favorite hymns is... He Lives.... When I was pregnant w/ Reece we sang this around Easter and I cried my eyes out....the verse "How sweet to hold a brand new baby" really touched me.

I love Hymns and think it is awesome that you do. They are a great comfort especially dealing with health issues.

How Great Thou Art and Blessed Assurance are some really good ones.

I love hymns too, but sadly they aren't used at much in churches. My church still sings some, but not as much as I would like. Three of my favorite hymns are It Is Well With My Soul, How Great Thou Art and I've Got A Mansion. These songs have helped me a lot after my sister's death. As hard as it is to have her gone, I know she is so much better off. She is no longer suffering! She gets to breathe easily and run like she never could before!!! GOD IS AMAZING AND WONDERFUL!!!!

While I was at work some of the residents (I work as a cook in an Alzheimer's home) some of the residents started singing "Blessed Assurance" That really touched me. Also, there is one man who likes to sing "You are my Sunshine"... I'm not sure if that is actually a hymn, but it is a great song. =-) Anyway, he has a good voice, and I love hearing him sing it every time.

We sang this one in Church today. It is the first time I heard it and i really like it (sung to the tune of "Danny Boy")

We Shall Go Out With Hope of Resurrection

We shall go out with hope of resurrection
we shall go out, from strength to strength go on,
we shall go out and tell our stories boldly,
tales of a love that will not let us go.
we'll sing our songs of wrongs that can be righted,
we'll dream our dreams of hurts that can be healed.
We'll weave a cloth of all the world united
within the vision of a Christ who sets us free.

We'll give a voice to those who have not spoken,
we'll find a word for those whose lips are sealed,
we'll make the tunes for those who sing no longer,
vibrating love alive in every heart.
We'll share our Joy with those who still are weeping,
chant hymns of strength for hearts that break in grief.
We'll leap and dance the resurrection story
including all within the circles of our love.

Dear readers. This is Jarod's father. Unfortunately Jarod passed away today 12/20/08 after a very short stay in the hospital. We do not know a lot of detail about Jarod's situation at this time but we do know he called 911 on Thursday about 10:00 a.m. Before he made it to the hospital a few blocks away he lost conscinceness. The hospital was so busy trying to stablize him they did not try to contact us until later that evening. My cell phone was off when the hospital found his cell phone and tried to call. The hospital finely reached me at 7:30 a.m. Friday. We were able to pick up airline tickets from Boise Idaho and flew to Denver. Jarod showed quite a bit of improvement Friday evening probably because we were there. However his condition started to deteriate about 2 a.m. By 7:00 his blood saturation level had droped to the low 70' and his blood pressure was below 100 over 50. Starting at 12:00 p.m. his blood saturation level was in the low 60's and blood pressure below 60 over 50. He passed away at 2:45 p.m. with his mother, father, two sisters, aunt and uncle by his side. As his pulse faded his aunt read one of his favorate poems, "God give me wings." We are trying to save his website c-mockingbird.com and keep it active. I know Jarod has touched a lot of lives and we would be very interested in hearing from you.
