edan~ were you specifically instructed to immediately follow the hypersal with the pulmozyme? Hypersal can affect how well the Pulmozyme works. We do albuterol, hypersal and pulmicort in the AM, albuterol, pulmozyme and pulmicort at night. When doing 3 tx/day we add another hypersal. We were told it was better to only do hypersal once than it would be to do it twice and therefore end up combining it in the same session as pulmozyme.

Emily was much older at dx and when starting any of her tx, but just wanted to chime in to mention that her clinic has all kids do their first hypersal tx in office due to risk of bronchospasm... so your child isn't just doing this due to being little. It's safer to start this way, since bronchospasm is a known risk with this med. Emily did pft's, albuterol, pft's, hypersal, and pft's again. Obviously a little one won't be able to do pft's but they can observe. She coughed (productively) throughout the tx and had mucus production from her nose as well~ we were very happy! It's continued to be a great tx.

Harriet - I'm both excited and worried about increased sputum production in Ellie! <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif" border="0"> Excited that she'll clear more mucus, but concerned that it's been sitting in there - reality check of sorts. Her doctor has advised twice daily HTS (15 mins post albuterol) and Pulmozyme once daily...I suppose it's ideal to do a middle of the day treatment with Pulmozyme. They did mention following HTS with Pulmozyme but didn't state how long to wait...

Please don't worry about increased sputum, it's not anything NEW- it will just be allowing her to expel what is already THERE by hydrating and thinning it. So if you see more- be glad she is getting rid of it.

Every time Emily has started a tx that resulted in productive cough and expelling sputum (Pulmozyme and then Hypersal) it has made me a little sad, though... it just shows me the 'cf process' going on down there.

We did not start the HTS in the office and I haven't done it yet, I'm a little worried about the bronchospasms issue. We also weren't told about doing the Albuterol before, just curious, does anyone not do this? My daughter doesn't usually do Albuterol, just Pulmozyme. Our DR. said HTS then Pulmozyme while doing the Vest. We just got a new Dr. here in Florida, Dr. Barbara Stewart? ANyone in familiar with her? Thanks
