I get so tired sometimes. I am not trying to be negative, but I truly am tired..maybe from sleep deprivation. I have been battling a really bad sinus infection for over a month, was on antibiotics (by mouth) for a few weeks but unfortunately the infection creeped into my lungs and now I am on another course of IV's for at least two more weeks. I have B. cepacia, very resistant and grew out a pretty high colony count this time around. I am a tough one to treat and the antibiotics that I am moderately sensitive to I am severely allergic to, so the docs are always at a loss...time for desensitization soon.
But, I am grateful that I haven't been on IV's since Thanksgiving, it used to be every other month for me. Since the Pulmozyme was added and the Vest (remember, I was just diagnosed not too long ago at the ripe age of 33 LOL), I think that has definitely helped ridding me of those secretions that sit in my lungs...even with a vent, it works amazingly well. For those who do IV's at home, especially multiple ones, I wonder how in earth you guys keep up with the schedule? I was a nurse before I had to stop, now I appreciate what the patients went through when I had to wake them at 2 am for a dose of antibiotics and why they were so cranky LOL. I actually set my alarm so that I can infuse my meds in a timely manner. Right now I am on Fortaz three times daily and Tobra once a day along with a whole bunch of nebs and my vest. By the end of the day I am exhausted and I don't even go anywhere! For those who deal with this on a frequent basis, my hat goes off to you...
Just needed to vent, you guys understand exactly what I am feeling right now. I know it will get better as my infection gets better, I am going to be an optimistic. I'm probably just cranky because I just need some steady sleep. I promise I won't be Oscar the grouch too long
Hugs to all of you, Jenn

Jenn, I totally understand. I ended up with a bad staph infection that caused a heaping helping of pnumonia (sp?) on top of it, and I'm on home IV's right now, too. Meropenem, Tobra, and an oral called Zyvox. The Meropenem is due every 8 hours, so I have to set my alarm for 5 in the morning and try to hook up a med bag when I'm half alseep. It sux, not to mention all the interrupted sleep. So I totally get you when it comes to that. Maybe we'll both finally get some good sleep sometime soon ^_^ I hope you're feeling better soon!

I would try and take a nap or meditate everyday. Perhaps it might be difficult at first to try and relax but this will help you a lot. IF you have trouble take a few moments to sit down and right down ways on how you want to handle this episode and keep this on your fridge. I think it is time to treat yourself as if you were your own nurse talking to you. self talk is important. Positive or negative get it all out.

Jenn,
We all need to vent sometimes. I have read your past posts and have heard about your experiences and just wonder how you do it all with such a positive attitude. You are truly amazing and My hat goes off to you. Keep your chin up. I know that these moments pass. We all have them. Let us know if we an help you at all.

Thank you for responding, I am feeling better already. My family sees how cranky I am but they really don't totally get it like all of you. The only time I welcomed sleep deprivation was when I had my children, when they woke up for their feedings. Just holding them, even if it was at 3 am, was wonderful....

Lilith, I hope you beat that staph infection soon, hopefully we will get that well deserved sleep and soon. I am patient, but only to a point LOL. Whew, you are on about the same schedule as I am..they used to use the Meropenem and Tobra on me until I reacted to the Meropenem, so it's Fortaz and Tobra for me now. Aren't you really beginning to hate that alarm clock???? LOL

Karenbad, thank you for your words of encouragement. I did really need to get this off of my chest. I don't complain too much, but sometimes it just builds up until I finally have to unload it all. It always feels better when I do that.

Risa, I like your advice...I do nap in between all of the activities, I sometimes feel like a new mom...sleep when the baby sleeps. If I can't sleep, I do things that relax me, listen to soft music while closing my eyes and just taking a mental vacation somewhere perhaps exotic or to a favorite childhood place. I will take you up on writing down how to cope with this, I used to advise my patients to do the same....so what's good for the goose should be good for the gander too as far as this goes LOL. I usually cope well, but but when fatigue sets in, it just is harder to do...my mind is in a fog or on autopilot with the routine.

All of you are great, many hugs to you!! Jenn

To Sue, Allie and Emilee...thank you as well...As I have said, I am a tough cookie, been through alot in just 3 years, but mostly since last year but I try to hold my head high and just try and adapt to what is thrown at me. I too hope to get better soon, if my doc prescribes more antibiotics after the two weeks are up (guess it depends on how my lungs respond and how my cultures come out) I think I will scream. I have been on antibiotics for 8 weeks once, and that was no picnic, I was in the hospital for the most part of that one but nonetheless, I stilll was very sleep deprived. I am surprised I didn't crack in two! Hugs, Jenn

Try this method. IT worked wonders for me. THis is from Energy Medicine by an instructor who teachs this to all her students. I paid fifty dollars to learn this method that I am going to share. This helped me with my anxiety pre transplant. I went from feeling like crap to feeling like I was in heaven in just three or more minutes. You need to practice this daily to see and feel the results. Be patient but for me I felt the affects right away

There is a wonderful technique that I used and I love it called Triple Warmer. You take your right fingers and place them on your left inner knee cap on the inside. Then take your left finger tips and place them on the inside of your right arm where they take blood so it is on the right inside of the crease of your arm. Hold for three minutes while you are breathing (you might feel your boy suddenly take a sigh). Then switch opposite arms and knees the mirror image and hold for three minutes on each side. THis is balancing your body and you are crossing energies. I just started doing this again for sleep. IT is great for anxiety, over tired feelings, feeling like your crawling out of your skin etc...

IT is also good for auto-immune disorders. IT is described best in the book called Energy Medicine by Donna Eden. She does not go through this method so that is why I had to pay someone to learn it. The author talks about Triple warmer.

I will add when I had trouble breathing, I would go down on my oximeter to 89 then after doing triple warmer, I was back up to 96 or higher. IF anyone tries this please tell me if you see results email me at
txbuddies@yahoo.com

I want to teach this to many people at support group meetings. I know a few other techniques but this was my favorite
