Greetings! I'm looking to know if anyoen can help me w/ some information regarding testing for the cystic fibrosis gene. I'm going to be getting married in a few short months, and maybe in a year or 2, would like to have a child. Unfortunatly, i have 2 cousins who happen to have this disease, and know how costly and scarey this can be, and I really do not want to go through that. I would like to know where i could go to get myself and my fiancee tested w/out it costing an arm and a leg (and then some). I reside in Florida and would like to know where in Florida i could go get tested. If anyone can help me in this quest, please email me at: Morrison_Queen@hotmail.comThanksHeather

HI -- The easiest thing to do would be to find out if your cousins (are they siblings), know their mutation. Then you would just have to have yourself tested at a hospital that does genetic testing. If they do not know what their mutation is, then they too could be tested. Knowing their mutation would make it easier, then you would just compare and know if you have the same thing. Good Luck. If it turned out that you were a carrier then you could proceed with your fiancee. There is really no need to have him tested until you know for sure that you are a carrier.
