As everyone else already stated, ask anything and everything you can possibly ever want to know... there is no stupid question just remember that.

Some questions that were important to me were about:
- Being intubated and would i be awake for any portion while on a vent.

- What are bronchoscopies like and how often would i have to have them and will i be awake.

Some questions that were general or curiosity were:

- How soon will I be able to eat / drink.

- How soon will I be able to move / walk.

- How much pain will there be after transplant.

- Can I get photos taken during the surgery / my new lungs.

Things I did not know before transplant and did not think to ask were:

- How long would I be in an induced sleep after transplant. (They had never mentioned that it is standard practice for them to keep the patient asleep for 48 hours post transplant so I was not aware of it when i woke up and it also concerned my family initially).

- What side effects may occur after transplant (I am 6 months post transplant and have developed severly thining skin to the point that I tore off a large area of skin with a piece of medical tape. I have also developed skin blisters on my leg that they are speculating at this point may be from prednisone... not anything that ever came up or I thought to ask about).

Hope this helps if I can ansnwer any questions feel free to message me.

Good Luck!

I just wanted to say that I think it is great you put examples of questions you DID ask and things you wish you would have asked pumuckl.

I will put this out there though for the original poster. If you are concerned about the length of sedation ask your center. I say that because I was NOT kept in an induced sleep after my transplant. I came to around an hour after my surgery ended and was off the vent within about 3-4 hours. So different centers/hospitals will have different standards.

Take Care,
Linds
