hey there!

That's always really cool. I don't think I've ever met another CFer that wasn't out of any sort of CF context (hospital, dr waiting room, great strides walk, etc.). I've met a lot of people, though, that are very familiar with CF. At work, I one time noticed a customer with a great strides t-shirt on. I HAD to stop her and ask how she got involved in CF and she told me she used to work for the CF foundation in my area. We struck up a conversation about treatments and doctors, etc. I thought that was pretty cool. I've had a few customers say something about my coughing only to find that their son/daughter has CF, too.

Not to hijack the post or change the subject too much, but you said the person with CF was a fill-in for another lab technician--what do you do? Lab tech makes me wonder if you're a medical technologist or a researcher? Just wondering because I'm on track to be a medical technologist...I may end up being a licensed histologist by the time my program is done, but the lab is where my passion is.

Hi Erin,

I work in a doctor's office and we're contracted with a lab company to perform phlebotomy at our office. However, I am an RN.

But, I did used to work in a lab (partly as a lab technician) for 5 years, so I have experience with that as well.

I always say follow your dreams...so definitely set your goals for becoming a histologist! Awesome!

I am a women of 55 with CF still living by some miracle, but my hacking is getting worse and it brings attention frequently, my quickest answer is I have bad asthma, I just do not want to go into the whole explanation. But I have seen people move away quickly in waiting rooms, stores? So many people will just come out and say oh you shd really quit smoking? LOL but being NY alot of people just think they can speak their mind?? I do use a cough suppresant occassionally and it helps, but not enough. Though I have found that a glass of red wine works wonders. But I have to amdit I keep it my big secret more or less.

Windex,

I am also pretty quiet about my CF. I have worked at this company for almost 5 years and no one really understood my CF until this other girl came into our office. Her cough was more noticeable and she was not afraid to tell everyone she had it so that they weren't wondering. I am not open like that, so it was kind of nice because it really got my coworkers to ask me questions about it.

When I was a Freshman in high school I had a Biology class with a girl that had CF. I actually did not know for the first month that she had CF. I would hear her cough some but that was about it. Then I heard her talking about it to another girl and that is when I found out. It was kind of odd to have someone else with CF in class. I mean the odds of that can't be to high.

That's great your co-workers are taking more of an interest! But isn't it also a credit to you that your cough was not bad enough to make them sit up and take notice? I say kudos to you, you're obviously doing well!
I have a sort of pride in the fact that people don't notice anything different about me and the few people I end up telling are always surprised!
On a side note could I implore people NEVER to go up to a stranger and ask if they have cf! If someone heard me cough on the street and asked me that I would find it very disheartening...maybe that's just me though!

Dukeblue you're one of the only people I've seen on this with a tag saying they had scoliosis, can I ask you if you've had corrective surgery?
