LDS or Morman Question

I have two questions about LDS or Mormans:

1.) Are they one in the same?

2.) Do they celebrate holidays such as Christmas, Easter, etc... and what about birthdays?

I ask because my brother married a morman and I don't know much about the religion. I'm not sure how to handle things such as holidays. I don't know if Mormans consider themselves Christians or not and whether they celebrate Christian holidays.

Thanks for any answers.

We have a CFer on here who is a Morman. I dont know if she will share with you, but since I am friendly with her I found out a few things. LDS (Latter Day Saints) & Mormans is the same thing. They do celebrate Christmas & are considered Christians. If my friend doesnt wish to discuss this on the forum, maybe she will contact you privatelu. I was not aware that LDS & Mormans were one in the same. Its good to try to understand the different religions even if you dont follow the beliefs.

Actually, Mormons do suffer alienation from many christian groups, but I would hope that would not happen on this forum.

Mormons can join the cool kids club I'm in. I always thought Mormons were accepted by all Christianss anyhow, but if even Catholics aren't .....good gravy, no one's 'cool' enough apparently.

I am the one that Melissa was refering too. Yes Mormons and LDS are one in the same as she said and we are Christian. The full name of our church is The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. We celebrate all of these holidays and even birthdays. If you have any other questions please feel free to ask. I was wondering if your brother became a member of the church as well or if he just married someone that was LDS?

Emilee.

P.S. Thanks Allie for the welcoming into the cool kids club.

I am a member of the Church as well. If anyone would like more info. feel free to email me or message me here. I have worked in the church for decades, and served a mission. Married in the Manti temple and have 4 children. We lived in Hawaii for the last 11 years before moving to Texas. Oh by the way, the greatest C.F. doctor is Dr. Rober Mckey in Miami Florida.

In past years i also worked for Maui Land & Pineapple Company, and Y.D.E. (Youth Devellopmental Enterprises).

For the most part the LDS church has the same beliefs that most
churches have. I am not sure but I think that the no
birthday, holiday, blood transfusion, ect... is Jehovah witnesses,
or 7th day Adventist. I don't remember which.

There are two great web sites by the mormon church. They are
www.mormon.com and www.lds.org. Both are made by the church itself,
and it explains everything about our beliefs and religion. On
www.lds.org you can read all of the material that the church
publishes to its member and so you can read exactly what they teach
in church. I recommend these sites.

It is true that we read both the Bible and the Book of Mormon. They
are both accounts of the life and ministry of -Jesus-Christ-. The
Book of Mormon is an account of the people of the American
Continent and -Jesus. visit to them after his death. You can even
read all of the Book of Mormon on line at this site. I hope you
look it up.

I looked up Deism. It seems to revolve on the idea that there is a
God, he made the world and everything in it, and then left us to
fend for ourselves. He does not interfere and does not reveal
anything to man. God is an eternal being.

What we can conclude about the nature of God from this is that he
would be of a different nature than man is. This idea seems a
little sad to me. I believe that we are made in the image of God
and that we have divine qualities that come from Him. After
becoming a parent, I have come to an understanding that God must be
involved in our lives. I couldn't imagine having John and then
letting him alone to figure out the world. I am there to give him
help and understanding. I believe that God is the father of our
spirits. He does interact and guide and help us all as His
children, but he does not control us or make us act in the way that
He wants. We have the choice to act how we desire.

I appreciate the fact that Deism believe in equality of all people.
I also appreciate the fact that Deism believes that we all have
divine qualities given from God.

I think that sometimes people have a hard time believing that God
is there because we cannot see Him or interact with Him face to
face. Faith and hope are major concepts that we must use. I believe
that God interacts with us because I know that if I were left alone
to govern my own life with out help, I would be worse off than I am
now. I can feel His hand in my life. I feel inspiration from God
and I just seem to know that he is involved in my life. I think
that it is something that is hard to describe but I just seem to
know, in my mind and in my heart.

I don't think that there should be reason without revelation. It is
the same concept that you can be a scientist and still believe in
God. God works with the natural laws of nature and science to bring
about his purposes. He made the world, and He governs it by the
rules of nature. God relies on us to use our reason to understand
the world. It is possible to reason and believe that God interacts
and reveals things to man on earth.

What do you think about the LDS church?
hey Johnsmom, i went through alot of the lds site, sheesh it is
very involved!. from what i can gather without reading the entire
book of mormon is Joseph Smith is saying that the bible as i know
it is not as complete as the book of mormon as revealed to him by
Moroni , in his glorified state, and the golden plates were
translated by Smith due to divine revelation given solely to him by
God. therefore, in my mind mormons are following a revelation given
to Smith, and that mormons also believe in Jesus as the son of God
and it is by belief in Jesus and his triumph over death that one
enters eternal life , as in heaven, when you die. this is all very
similar to pentecostal style belief with the added extra that the
book of mormon is the most correct book of any on earth, is the
keystone to your religion, and man will get closer to God abiding
by its precepts than by any other book, i guess that means its
authority usurps the bibles. if this is correct then i maintain
that it is a religion based upon one mortal mans
"exclusive" revelation of Gods desires, and also very
much means most people born over history will be destined to reside
in hell with satan upon judgement day, due to the fact most people
do not believe Jesus was actually God.
i prefer to think that the creative God of this universe and the
little our minds can take in of it , has whatever happens when we
die taken care of and i need not through fear or indoctrination be
forced to live my life adhearing to another mans wisdom or beliefs.
i am every bit as capable of seeking out truth for myself through
honest and genuine soul searching with my creative God. i dont
believe that if i arrive at the conclusion that mormonism,
christianity, Judaism etc are all just faiths largely based on
different revelations given to different men throughout history,
that upon my death i will be eternally punished! there are many
different religions, or faiths on this globe, im interested in why
people believe so staunchly that their particular belief on how to
live life and what happens after death is the truth, and that if
you dont agree with their doctrine you are just wrong.!! i believe
in our spirits that we all feel grief the same , all feel peace the
same and we all truly are as one in our emmotions and nature. i
hope this makes sense to you and look foward to discussion on
spiritul matters. i am on a journey no doubt, and this site is just
another link in my chain. i think there is alot of love on here and
enjoy reading of the concern and care exhibited to everyone who has
a question or statement. cheers Blacky

I guess one of the best things about living in a free country is that everyone is allowed to believe how they want to believe. I really appreciate this. I just love being a member of our church and I hope that you can find just as much peace and joy in you beliefs.

I have a question for anyone that can help me. I have a three and half year old girl, she is a carrier for CF. I am wondering if she is starting to show some signs. She is either constipated or has very loose bowel movements. She still weighs less than 30 pounds. She never really eats much and is a very picky eater. She has had this cold for more than a month and she is so full of mucus. I just needed to know if I am over acting or if this is something I should see her doctor about? Also I don't know if this is a sign for CF but she always feel hot to the touch??? If anyone can help me that would be great.
Thanks- worried Mom
