Leaking Protein

Hi All,

I am 24 and I have CF on top of type 1 diabetes (not related to my cf at all) I had to go to the ER last night b/c my feet and legs are extremely swollen and will not go down. This has been going on in my legs for 2 days and my feet have been getting swollen on and off for 3 weeks now. The ER doctor ruled out kidney failure due to my blood results showing my kidneys were in great shape. My blood sugar levels are good, I take great care of myself and work closely with my endocrinologist (aka diabetic doctor) The ER doctor said that my feet and legs are getting so swollen b/c I am leaking a ton of protein. I also have poor vitamin D levels. She said these issues are probably b/c of my cf and I need to bring it up with my cf doctor. I have an appointment this month so I will definitely bring this to his attention but I was wondering how you fix protein leakage? What are some things you can do or take to help with the leaking protein issue? What works for you? Thanks so much for taking time to read this and help me out! I really appreciate the feedback

Well, my dear, I am not sure if this will help, but I will comment anyway
Before being diagnosed with CF, my son was diagnosed with Protein Losing Enteropathy (protein leaking out). Once we got him on enzymes, all issues disappeared.
I wonder if you need enzymes with a higher amount of protease in them, to break down the protein you are eating???

blessings,
missa

Hey Missa, thank you so much! That actually helps a lot. I just had a doctor appointment with my cf specialist 2 weeks ago and he put me on new enzymes. I just got my blood work back and it showed that my leaking protein issue is improving!!! Switching my enzymes makes sense to me b/c when enzymes can't break down the food in your body then there's no way you can be absorbing the nutrition from the food you're eating. Thanks for you're post! Hope you and your boys are doing well ... take care!
