Hi Matt....been wondering how you made out. Good that you are seeing a rheumy...they will do a very thorough exam, looking at your skin, your joints, range of motion, take a detailed history of your symptoms (when they are worse, what makes it better etc.) and will more than likely draw labs to check your immunological status (ANA, Sed rate, CRP, lupus panel, RA panel....whatever they feel is necessary) to see if you have an underlying problem that is making your pain that much worse. I would ask them what they feel the pain/CF link is and what they do to treat that if indeed it turns out that is your main problem...hopefully they acknowledge that some of the pain could be from an inflammatory process because of the constant infections in your lungs.
Definitely write down any questions that pop into mind, also any symptoms and when they are the worst, what makes you feel better etc.
I wish you luck and I hope that you finally get somewhere. Sounds like this new hospital was a good choice for you.

I am so sorry, My joint pain is related to the cipro we think but I don't take narcotics at all period, all the do is make me loopy. I have to say advil is my very best friend.. I take 800mgs every eight hours and that helps a lot.

I hate being in pain... I don't struggle too bad with it...I have never heard of a pain clinic treating anyone that way, I have never been to one but I know people who have. I was under the impression that they come up with a plan of care for you to manage your pain.

Are you having a good attitude with them, I am not saying you have to but that might help. it seems like they are not taking you serious for some reason. I would go to a different pain clinci and just calmly explain your situation.

I am sorry for you, have you tried advil or motrin if you are aloowed to take it? How about hot or cold packs. stretching... light exercise?

I'm so sorry Matt.....please don't give up though. It took at 3 different rheumy's, a geneticist and finally, the help of a wonderful GP to get my pain diagnosed, taken seriously and treated. I hope that won't be the case for you, but the moral of the story is, just keep moving on until you get your answers and proper treatment. I forgot if you answered me, but do you have a GP? For non CF issues, this would be wise, and finding a good one who will take your pain seriously is important. Maybe try that route, and if you have a good GP, usually they can point you in the direction of good specialists..
Hang in there,

That sucks Matt, it sounds like you are in a lot of pain. Idk if it will be better, but Aleve LiquiGels are a lot stronger than any other OTC NSAID that I have taken. But then again, when I am really in pain it doesn't help that much. But it's probably worth trying.
