My recent Experience at a New Primary Care Dr's Office...

We moved here to another state and I need to start over with drs. I needed a new Primary care dr. I saw her the other day and it was a awful experience <img title="Frown" src="include/wysiwyg/tinymce/jscripts/tiny_mce/plugins/emotions/img/smiley-frown.gif" alt="Frown" border="0" />..
I brought all of my records from my most recent hospital stay. She asked why I was being seen, and I explained I'm on Levaquin 750mg for 10 days..because a week prior I cultured for Psuedomonas aergonsosa (I know that is spelled wrong lol) and after I told her that she FREAKED out of me. She insisted I need to wear a mask at all times. My 5 year old son was in the room and he heard the entire conversation. She said I'm infecting all the pregnant and elderly people I come in contact with daily..WTF??! So I asked,'You really think I need to wear a mask?' and she got so worked up she kind of exploded at me and said 'Why do you think you had your own private room at that hospital??!' I said the nurses, drs.and everyone that worked there including those who brought the food up from the cafeteria did NOT wear masks....Seriously, then she put gloves on and turned AWAY from me when she listened to me and stood a mile away from me when she looked at my throat and ears. It was kind of comical and then embarrassing. Anyone else encounter a dr insisting they wear a mask over Psuedomonas infection? I've had this infection since I was a kid..first time this ever happened...

The world is full of Doctors that can't even spell CYSTIC FIBROSIS much less dX or treat it. It is not a suprise that you found one,

This is the most ridiculous thing I have ever heard. I would switch doctors, but I would also be sure that someone on the board of administrators of the medical practice hears about her behavior. She should have googled PA before she went into the room if she was that ignorant about what it is and how it is transfered. rosesixtyfive, mother of Sam DDF508 2 years old

I can't take Sulfur or Pcn and I"m pretty limited to what medications I can take (there is one thru a iv or picc line I had last summer that worked wonderfully..but she didn't even know this, she didn't even bother to look at my records, nothing!

That's a good idea and no she never googled..she just saw me as a freak show from her actions. I HATE starting over with new drs. because it's always a disaster, yet this was the worst yet..

Yeah, run to another doctor, quickly! Some GP's are wonderful, and unfortunately, there are some that have no idea what CF or bronchiectasis is. I was lucky to get a doctor who was very well versed in CF, in fact, she was key to getting me diagnosed. It's awful that she treated you like that, unprofessional to say the least! She needs to be educated regarding CF bugs (or bronchiectasis in your case).

Sounds like a fluke. Best to just get a new dr. asap. Sorry you had to deal with that--yuck!

I'm sorry you had to experience that! I would definitely find a new doctor. A lot of PCP's have no idea about the details of CF. It's kind of rare when you find one that actually understands it and is willing to work with you and your CF needs. I've had some doctors that were like, "You can't have CF, you're too big and tall" or some of them just ignore the fact that I have CF and just jump over it as if they are only going to assess and treat my acute medical issue and not take into account my other meds, condition, or needs. I even had one doctor that was like, "What do you want me to prescribe you?" as if I knew more than he did about how to treat myself, LOL. So, the key is to finding the doctor that suits you best, because they have different experiences and ways of treating patients.

THIS is the exact reason why I dont even have a general practitioner lol. It really is hard to find one that knows more than what text books and google tell them.
