Liza,
I now see you offered the same advice as me about grocery shopping with your child--glad that works for you! And your TV advice is similar to being influenced by a possibly-older friend coming over to eat with your child. Soooo cool.
It is funny too that you have had success with aged cheeses. Similar to my daughter, who likes pecorino romano and stilton. Expensive tastes ;-)

I'm the guest dietitian this month from the company that makes PediaSmart, an organic complete nutrition formula for children from 1 to 13 years of age. For a picky eater, sometimes adding a powdered nutrition supplement like PediaSmart to foods that your child does like can help to meet daily nutritional needs. For example, if he likes macaroni and cheese or mashed potatoes, you can add the powdered supplement to these. Also, PediaSmart can be prepared as a beverage such as a smoothie that he may prefer over a glass of milk. I hope these suggestions are useful.

Nature's One is committed to assisting families and their children with special nutritional needs by offering organic nutritional supplements and formulas. Providing products free of harmful chemicals, such as pesticides, artificial colors/flavors/sweeteners, and genetically modified ingredients is especially of concern to the founders of Nature's One who have a son with cystic fibrosis. For additional information about Nature's One pediatric nutritional products, please visit us at www.NaturesOne.com.

When the junk food is no longer in the house, he will have no choice but to eat whole good foods that you have. When my daughter was younger she had one favorite food group, bread. But, we could have bread with the meal, not as the meal. Even when she was very young I would have her help me in the kitchen with getting dinner on the table. It does take longer, but it is better than having them sit in front of the tv and eating junk food. your son can always mix something in, like mix the butter on the corn. He won't starve himself to death at this age. He may go hungry for one night, but i bet by the morning, he will be asking for anything you have, oh, darn you only have whole wheat toast with peanut butter and a glass of milk for breakfast. After a few days of eating new foods you can give him some chips with his lunch as a treat. I know weight gain is in issue-we are always being told she has to gain weight-that's hard for a teenage girl who is a runner. At this age bribe and trickery are the key sometimes. Good Luck!

Hi! It's Diane, the guest dietitian again. At 2 years of age, I bet your toddler likes to play with Play-Doh. Here's a recipe that is nutritious and fun assuming there's no peanut allergy concerns....Peanut Butter Play-Doh....
use 2 cups of peanut butter and mix with 2 cups of powdered milk and 1 cup of honey. Mix this together well and refrigerate for an hour. If the mixture is still a bit sticky, add more powdered milk. You can roll this into balls or let your child play with it and have a snack at the same time. For even more nutrition, you could use PediaSmart powder in place of the powdered milk. This recipe should not be used for children less than 1 year of age because honey is not recommended for infants. Enjoy.

I know this is a old thread but I am still responding. I tried to force my child and it just didn't seem right. He ate it once I got it in his mouth but getting it in is bad! He is very underweight and close to feeding tube if I don't get his weight up but he just does not want to eat! I let him eat what he wanted for a long time but now we are homebound by the dr so he doesn't get sick because he is high risk so I really want to try to get him to gain weight. My other kids do not have it and my approach with them was that's fine you don't need to eat but I am not giving you something else later you get food at yo next meal. Well this guy doesn't care and could go all day or days without eating. That is obviously not a option, he has gone without eating when giving the chance. He is in feeding therapy but it is not enough any advice?
I like the oatmeal idea any ideas where I can get a good recipe? He does love cereal. When I find something he loves I try to give him probably too much because then he gets sick of it. Thanks
