HI- When I was twelve i cultured A-typical Mycobacteria...I am assuming it is very similar to this "avium" thing. What city/hospital are you involved in? It is important to remember that Mycobacteria is not something that is simply cf-related....it is simply due to the fact that "we" have a susceptibility (sp?) to growing other harmful organisms. Mycobacteria is similar to TB, in structure...and can be potentially very harmful if it is not treated properly with the right drugs. It can grow fast, in fact i had to have surgery because my cough/infection was treated as simple cf bugs, and got out of control: i had to have my lower left lobe removed. My mycobacteria wasnt of the same specific type as yours, but it is most definitely of a similar risk. such a thing can be easily controlled with the right treatment, and i am just trying to make sure you have people taking care of you write me any time at : zoe7777@aol.comcaitlin
