Hi all, just have a question.

My nephew is going to be a dad (only 17). I have aksed my brother, his father, to get tested to see if he's a carrier, but my brother has not done so. My question is, if my brother is a carrier, does that mean that my nephew also is?

Thank you

If your brother is a carrier, then your nephew has a 50% chance of being a carrier himself. I'm pretty sure of that...it's late and my math skills aren't so sharp this late lol. I would think it is better that the nephew gets tested....if his partner is a carrier, then it becomes very significant as the child will have a 25% chance of getting CF if both your nephew and the mother are carriers. I would approach your nephew and the mom to be, inform them about testing for CF mutations. They should also mention that CF is present in the family line to the doctor.

Thank you, yes I have mentioned it to them. So young and unaware...
